Ok, this may be rude, but isn't he a bit up there in age for Phantom? I remember him playing the role when I was a little kid.

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *faints*
Anyone willing to fund my trip to Australia? My "recording" of the original Melbourne cast is the only version of POtO that I've ever been able to stomach.
Anthony Warlow melts every molecule in my body. Especially when he sings "Music of the Night."

Christine mistakes the Phantom for her father, and the relationship is mentor/protege, so as long as he can perform it well I don't see why there'd be an upper age limit for the Phantom. Not to mention that there's the mask and makeup.

He's 45. So no, not really. Same age range as the McGillin/Panaro/Mauer set. And consider at the time he played the role the first time, he was the youngest Phantom, at 29.

I'm guessing it's too much to hope that this will be professionally filmed. That would be beyond increadible, however.

While I'm pleased that he is to do this show again Melbourne really needs to see some new shows. Next years big shows at this time are MISS SAIGON and PHANTOM, ugh. This will be the third time we've had PHANTOM.
I remember seeing Warlow as Sky Masterson in GUYS AND DOLLS when he was 24. Now I really feel old.

About 8 years ago, played the Princess Theatre with Rob Guest as the Phantom. It ran about 6 months. I don't think it was too successful.

That was the return engagement. The original production opened 1990/1991 and ran for two and half years in Melbourne before another two or so years in Sydney.

Does anyone know, why he had an sudden exit of the show the first time he played it? I was mentioned in the article.

I have a clip of him on a talk show, filmed shortly after he left. He said he basically felt like he'd done everything with the role that he could, that he had other offers, and he "wanted to strike while the iron is hot." Which made this news more interesting -- I never thought he'd return to Phantom.

No it wasn't a return engagement. The original was produced by Cameron Mac Intosh and The Really Useful Group. The revival was a separate production and produced solely by The Really Useful Group. This revival of a revival is produced by The Really Useful Group and John Frost. It is pretty much an extension of the recent Asian tour and I think you find most of the cast is the same.
When the announcement was made about Warlow leaving, to the original Melbourne cast, at the time he was quite arrogant and the cast were heard to cheer. ( True story).

I'd love to see Trisha Crowe as Christine :) (Hell, I'd KILL to see Marina as Christine, but that ain't happening :p)
Not really a PotO fan, but looking forward to seeing it anyway - love Anthony! And this makes up for when I was 7 and my uncle offered to take me to see PotO and my mother said I was too young and I honestly never got over that. Until now!

Didn't he leave Phantom because he had cancer? That's disgusting if the rest of the cast cheered on his departure. I lived in Melbourne at the time, and wished I had been able to see him. I don't think he's too old either, and hell, with that voice, he can do anything he wants.

No, cancer came later. They cheered because he was quite stuck up in his young age. After he got rid of the cancer, he became a lot more humble and down to earth.
As Pope of the Church of Warlow, I think I should have an all expenses paid trip to see him. Grrrrr!!!!

Geez, it would take me 10 years to save up enough money for flight, hotel, the show, etc.
