I'm thinking about going in February but can't seem to find any info or predictions about it and don't want to waste time on a turkey. Looks interesting but so did China Doll and I had to dump that crap at a few dollars loss.

Difference between Hughie and China Doll is that Hughie is a known popular O'Neil play. China Doll was a never before seen play by a fading David Mamet

Yeah, they're not really comparable? Did you really look for information on Hughie? Because there is plenty out there.

I understand that one is new and one is old. Sorry for being confusing, I meant about any WOM about this production and not of the plot. Just wondering if anyone has a gut feeling/thoughts? I'm trying to decide between this and View.

It's essentially a one man show. I'm still not sure what you're looking for, as it hasn't begun previews.
Why don't you go see View from the Bridge instead if you need all this prior information? There's reviews out there of that. Also, it's excellent.
Yeah, I'll probably just go to View. I just thought maybe some people had a gut feeling because most of the time, they are on point. Or maybe there was some gossip floating. Thank you so much for the help. : )
Saw it with Pacino pre teleprompter and blue tooth
It clocks in at about 55 minutes.Unless it is teamed with something else it will be a ton of money for a really short piece. It, like China, is basically a monologue with another actor acting as a hotel clerk. No need to see this production especially if it is just a stand alone piece.

Thank you, this is so helpful. I'll skip it.
It's on TDF for many dates so I don't think it'll be a hard show to get tickets.
View From The Bridge was fantastic.
I saw it a couple weeks ago, and like many great experiences in theatre, I keep thinking about it. If you were deciding between Hughie, and some other play that was just ok or even good, then maybe it would be worth taking a risk seeing an unknown quantity.
But in this case you are deciding between Hughie, and in my opinion, and utterly fantastic performance of a great play. Hughie may also be great, but comparing it to something special like this rendition of View From The Bridge, Hughie may be a real disappointment. To me it is a no-brainer .... see View From The Bridge!
Having seen previous productions of both, View is the way to go. Hughie is an appetizer whereas View is the main course.
Am I missing something regarding tickets? I checked tele charge and they're not listing it and the hughieonbroadway site sends you to a tele charge link that doesn't work... Any insider info? Trying to buy tickets for my mom....

I literally JUST looked at this because I was seeing what Sunday night shows are available for my April trip. (Not this one, but that's not relevant to your question.) I don't know why the link on their website links to the telecharge search page instead of a general page, but if you search for "Hughie" in keyword it comes up. Just make sure your city is set to NY city area.

PS. It's under "Eugene O'Neil's Hughie" on telecharge...
I suppose a link would be more helpful. https://www.telecharge.com/Broadway/Eugene-ONeills-Hughie/Overview

I saw Hughie in Lake Forest years ago with Jason Robards and believe me, it was a protracted yawn. I'm an avid O'Neill-ite, but this was a downer and a bummer. If Robards couldn't save it, no one can. Avoid at all costs.
Ditto for Pacino in his prime. He could not help it either.

I saw it with Brian Dennehy at the Goodman and really enjoyed it. But it was paired with Krapp's Last Tape and there was an intermission so it felt like a more substantial show and I felt like I got my money's worth seeing him in two shows for the price of one. (Granted--the two combined were the length of one show.) But I had never seen him onstage and had wanted to so that may be part of my enjoyment. This short show makes it awfully difficult to justify the cost of a Broadway ticket for me.

Nods to all the actors mentioned, but I'd see Dennehy playing MIchael Jackson.

He was amazing. I also saw him in the Iceman Cometh at the Goodman. We're lucky in Chicago he loves to perform at the Goodman!!
