Yes all that was real.

Timothy was in the original Rent cast, he is Sarah Jessica's brother, and they do have a brother named Pippin.

In all seriousness...why would they cast original members of the ensemble? The lead cast are the ones who made names for themselves. I mean, do fans of Scarlet Pimpernell really know that Gilles Chaison was also in thsi ensemble before he played Armand?
Besides, they all had double roles. Do you think these "no names" will make cameos that mean nothing to the average movie-goer? I'd bet that even if they did make the cameos, no one would recognize them.

I know this was posted a while ago, but while reading it, I got so distressed at all the misinformation, that I had to clear a few things up...

Timothy Britten Parker (Toby Parker) is not in the film version of RENT because he did not have an out in his WICKED contract, where he is currently playing Dr. Dillamond.

Yes, he is Sarah Jessica Parker's brother. When he is not on tour, he lives in New York City, where he has for most of his life, along with almost all of his brothers and sisters.

Pippin Parker, a successful writer and founding member of Naked Angels, is also Sarah's brother.

The other members of the family:
Rachel Parker
Andrew Forste
Megan Forste
Allegra Forste
Aaron Forste

Timothy occassionally sings in NY with a jazz trio under the name Toby Parker, and he is amazing...I saw him last year at a club called Opia. He also did a show at a club in Chicago while the WICKED tour was there.

And, he is one of the nicest people I have ever met....and I might add has added so, so, so much more to the role of Dr. Dillamond, than anyone else who has played it...

Didn't require two threads on the topic, but thanks for the clarification anyway. (Someone needs to correct Pippin's gender on IMDB, which says he's SJP's "sister".)
