Liked Harvey. Liked him a LOT. Shock of all shocks, he's got a FINE voice that can be both powerful and soothingly gentle. He takes a very interesting take on the role; the first time he gets ANGRY is in the scene following "Chavala". It was an incredibly moving performance, into which he will surely grow.
Andrea Martin is great as Golde. Very, very funny.
Highlight of the night: "Do You Love Me?" Breathtaking.
THANKS FOR THE REVIEW!
Sounds Great...I can't wait to see the show.

Just go.
There was a huge amount of good will in the theatre last night.
The show's humor is far more balanced than before. Instead of stealing the whole show, the actor playing Motel steals only the scenes he is in.
Do You Love Me? is indeed a highlight.
The production looked good last night and will only get better in the playing.
I love John Cariani (Motel). An inspired, if somewhat eccentric performance.
My friend Trey went last night and said it was wonderful. I hope once this show gets re-reviewed it finds a new audience. Right now; it is really struggling at the box office.
I do believe, Dame, that the new cast members will infuse a new life into the show and the box office. I'm planning on going soon, and I had no desire to see it before.
I'd be interested in seeing the show with Harvey and Andrea. John Cariani's Motel made me cringe.
Anything Harvey does makes it good.
He was the best thing in Hairspray. He will be the best thing about Fiddler.
I still see him as Edna, so it will be hard to see him as Teyve.
But he is a brilliant actor and a diva bitch.
Love him.
I have enjoyed Harvey in the past. But I would't put all that idolation at his feet. Even as Edna all he really does is Harvey ( which is fine). This will be a opportunity to see him strech those acting muscles. I am looking forward to it.
This is good to hear because the ATC reviews were not kind. They said he did his 'Harveyisms' for a laugh (raised eyebrow, etc.) Which would be disappointing. I do NOT want to see Harvey schtick in Fiddler.
he was good in Mrs Doughtfire.............
And he was the funniest host at last years Drama Desk.
Thank you for the laughs Harvey!
I want to see him do has schtick in Fiddler. I love his schtick.
That's the reason i'm going.

Like we believe that Zero Mostel didn't do any eyebrow-raising Zeroisms in the role?
yes he was good in Mrs. Doubtfire, because he was doing his 'Harvey schtick.'
What is atc? Link please?
" I do NOT want to see Harvey schtick in Fiddler."
The theatre where I work at has had Eddie Mekka(from Laverne and Shirley) play Tevye for the past 10 years and he schticks it up every chance he can. I had to help spotlight one show and he just improvised all of his blocking, he jumped into the bottle dance for no reason(knocking over two actors who had REAL GLASS bottles on their heads), and half of his lines.
I iwll ask again; What is ATC?

No matter what develops over the next few months, there will be two familiar camps at war here:
A) One that thinks the unexpected casting will reveal something new, exciting and revelatory in both show and star ...
B) while the other camp will hold that it's an unsatisfying, curiosity - a mis-match that reveals the stars limitations.
Seeing it in two weeks, and I will post what camp I raise my flag in!
