Posted: 7/24/05 at 4:50pmYou're going to hear contradicting reports about colors because they print color and b&w Playbills at the same time. People get different ones depending on which usher they get, how early they come, etc.

Posted: 7/24/05 at 5:16pmI saw DRS earlier this month and I received a B&W playbill, but that is not to say others did not receive some left over color ones.

Posted: 7/24/05 at 6:02pmI always see shows in previews or when they first open, so mine are always usually in color. This season, the only ones that weren't in color for me were JULIUS CAESAR, SWEET CHARITY, STREETCAR, and MENAGERIE - but they were b&w from the start.

Well the last time I went to DRS was...it was a Sat evening...Norbie was out...the..9th. July 9 and we all got b&w playbills. The time before that I went and received color was June 23.
Ooh, noticing more differences. In the colored one the DRS logo is on the bottom but it's on the top of the b&w one. Everything else seems to be the same, prob doesn't matter much, but thought it was weird that this was the first time I noticed...oopsy.

Posted: 7/24/05 at 6:56pmUsually, ALL opening night playbills are the color version of the show's logo, unless the original logo is in black and white(For example, Phantom). And as long as the show makes money and can afford it, the playbills continue to be printed in color. Take my case- every Hairspray, Wicked, and Avenue Q playbill I own is in color.

Wicked's Playbill is still in color - someone had one on the bus today.
The Producers stopped having the leads on the cover after the return of Nathan and Matthew, I believe. I got the one with the two of them on the cover last March when I saw it, but when I went back in August when it was Brad and Hunter it was the b&w door. The two times I saw it this past May/June they were the same b&w door. It's probably too costly to have the photo shoots - they don't even change the main marquee anymore!

The color fo the playbill has nothing to do if it's a hit because rent in in b/w. But yes, some of the bigger attractions are color.
The following are some playbills i have in color:
Wicked
Aida
The Lion King
The Light in the Piazza
Spelling Bee
Hairspray
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
To Kill A Mockingbird
