Someone please correct me if I'm mis-remembering -- I believe that all of the numbers for this year's Tonys were live and all of last year's except for the "A Chorus Line" opening number outside Radio City, which was taped beforehand.
The opening number for the Tonys featuring the 42nd Street revival on the subway was recorded beforehand as well.
All this year's numbers were live, yes.
I was at the Tonys this year and I can confirm that all musical numbers were live - my appearance in the audience was pre-recorded, however.
p.s. Never mind Xanadu, after her performance at the Tonys, I'd so pay to see Whoopi play Mary Poppins ("I'll look after your kids but I ain't cleaning your house")!

BrodyFosse123 - thanks for posting that video. My husband had a friend, Wendy Edmead, who was in the original cast and we saw the show right after the nominations were announced. Good memories.
fanadu1996 - I know someone who in the show and I can guarantee, it was not prerecorded!

The 1995 awards, when Kathleen Turner was so tired/jetlagged/sozzled that she said 'Nineteen Ninety ...' and awarded Ralph (not 'Raife') Fiennes the Tony?
That was live.
