so he and scary spice will be playing opposite eachother.
i try not to judge a performance before i see it, but i have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach right now. i love the show, and this just makes me feel horrible about its future and my chances at getting to see it again.

Melanie starts in April. Drew is set to start in the fall.
Judging by the contracts of the last two "names" that were in the show, I would imagine Melanie will be gone by the time Drew starts, or they will have a short period when they are in the show together. Since Drew will be playing Mark, and not Roger, it really won't make all that much of a creative difference anyway, since Mimi and Mark don't have a whole lot of interaction in the show.
And for the record, I don't think the producers are crazy.

the show has been crap for over 3 years anyway. if you saw the original cast or even the second one you wouldnt even recognize the show now.

He's a great actor, and has a great portrayal of Mark.
He's also on year number 5 in the show. He'll be 25 in a few months and he started with Rent at 19. Maybe we will see Jessica Simpson on Newleyweds at Rent being confused then...
I'll try to be optimistic and go with the 'just because he's in a boy band he isn't good' attitude. However, this saddens me because I saw the show afew months ago and I thought it was in great shape and now the producers are getting rid of some great talented. Hopefully this will be the last of it for a while.
I gotta get to the Neder before Matt Caplan is benched. Actually I think when Christopher Fitzgerald leaves Wicked, Matt should replace him as Boq but now I'm off tangents. My apologies.

I think Matt would be perfect for Boq. In fact, if I recall correctly, he auditioned to play him in the workshops for Wicked. I think he's a little too tall, though.
I would absolutely love to see an episode of Newlyweds set around Drew being in the show. There is so much potential for a great episode!

Yes, I now recall that I think my friend told me that he tried out.
Maybe thats why the producers figured to bring Drew Lachey in because they could get an episode of Newleyweds out of it which would be great promotion.

Lordy, I am so SICK of people saying this. Have you seen the show lately? I doubt you have. When I saw it two weeks ago, it was AMAZING and I really had to question the sanity of everyone here who's been saying that the show is in "bad shape." Ugh, you guys REALLY don't like giving anyone a chance to perform in this show, do you? I hate the fact that people assume since the OBC was amazing, anyone who replaces them is crap. I have to say, again, the current cast is AMAZING!! There's nothing else to say about them.
As for Drew, well, Why don't we wait and see how he does? what's the big deal? I think he and Scary could be very good in this show, so why bash them before their first performance? Yeah, i na perfect world, no "names" would ever set foot on a Broadwa ystage, but honestly, RENT isn't the first show to do this type of casting, and it won't be the last. So how come everyone gets up in arms when someome semi-famous joins RENT, but it's totally cool to have this r&b divas coming in to play Aida?! It's just getting really stupid, because Deborah is actually the best Aida iv'e seen/heard.

Mimichica, I'm all for free speech, but you make the same argument everytime someone says the show hasn't been good. Given that it's usually the same people saying that, your defenses probably don't do much good in changing anyone's opinion. But soapbox on if it makes you feel good!
Some people like the show, some people don't, etc. It is quite clear that localonecrew likes to flaunt his inside connection, so we may as well let him do so. It's fun for him. Then we can go and enjoy the show that apparently has sucked for the past three years!
