There's a lot of hoopla going on right now at Perez Hilton's site... apparently a lot of people are writing in and saying that Lance Bass was very rude to them/refused to take pictures at the Hairspray stagedoor (and a bunch of other places).
So... have any BWWers successfully taken a picture/talked to La Bass after the show? Not that I believe Perez, but I need to know my chances.
Why would anyone want to meet him?
I hope for his sake they're not true. It's probably wise to alienate what few fans he has left.
I hate Perez Hilton. That is all.
I've seen a few fan photos with Lance from the stagedoor on Myspace.
Someone wrote to Perez..
“Hey Perez,
I just saw your latest posting about Lance Bass. What
a jerk! On top of that, what a liar in that myspace
posting. My friend, my sister and I went to see
Hairspray on Lance’s second night in the show and get
this, he had security escort him straight to a limo
after the show. He only signed a few autographs and
wouldn’t take photos with any of the fans waiting
outside of the show. This was only his SECOND night on
broadway. We were so disappointed. Every other “celeb”
in the show was very gracious and signed autographs
and took photos with ALL of the fans awaiting them.
(Including Ashley Parker Angel, Paul Vogt from Mad TV,
Jerry Matthers aka Beaver from Leave it to Beaver, and
a girl that was in 3LW.) He was seriously such an ass.
He could see we were all obviously disappointed and he
basically just shrugged his shoulders. He didn’t
apologize to anyone or try to make amends. Keep in
mind this was a sold out show where even nose bleed
seats were $75. On top of that, he really wasn’t all
that great in the show. I remember him being a much
better singer/ showing much more charisma back in the
NSYNC days. Who knows… maybe he’s been confusing
himself for Justin Timberlake. FYI Lance, you’re not
that great! I attached one of the few pics I could get
of him, I know that it sucks, but he really dashed out
of there. It really left a bad taste in my mouth,
along with all of the other “fans” of his that were
there that night.”
Yikes.
I like "it really left a bad taste in my mouth".
I hate that. Last night I went to Spelling Bee in Chicago, not that there are celebrities but they all stayed and signed autographs! I was one of the only ones waiting and they probably talked for around 20 mins. They were so gracious. Why can all broadway people be like that? Now to be fair though he could have already had plans but it still doesn't excuse being rude.

Ewan McGregor was fantastic at Guys and Dolls stagedoor...and I would say he's a bigger celebrity than Lance Bass. Chatted, took pictures...the only thing he wouldn't do was sign Star Wars memorablia, but everyone knew that, it's not like he yelled at someone or refused someone or anything.
No good Lance.
" I would say he's a bigger celebrity than Lance Bass. "
Uhhhh, yeah!
I have a feeling this thread will get deleted. I dunno, may be I'm wrong.
If Angela Lansbury can personally sign and chat after a performance, this schmuck should do the same thing. Asshole.

He doesn't have to sign autographs. That's not in his contract. If he wants to, well that's a nice gesture and good for him. But he's being paid to perform, not sign autographs.
True dat, but it sounds more like he was just rude.
Lance was extremely nice the next day after this alleged incident. He posed with fans and signed up one side of the barricade and back down. He signed for all who asked and was very gracious. Perez is a pig who loves to spread gossip.
Well that's true too.
It's all true! What are we supposed to do..
Leave these people alone!
They owe you NOTHING! People act as if signing autographs and taking pictures is some sort of right. It's not.
Once the show is over, your relationship is over. Move on.
I say GOOD for Bass to buck this foolish tradition.
When you are a "celebrity", fans are expected. Isn't it fair to say Lance Bass wouldn't have a career without his fans? So in a way, yes, he does owe them at least a polite look. If he doesn't feel the need to, or if he's in a rush, he doesn't have to stay and chat with everyone and sign autographs, but from what I've heard it's not just that.
I get what you're saying though.
Okay, I agree that stagedooring isn't in your contract and a lot of people that do it treat actors like they're cartoon walk arounds at Disneyland, but come on. Everyone else does it. Why shouldn't he? If he wants to avoid it, he can use another exit or wait until everyone at the stagedoor goes home. To come out the stagedoor and ignore most of his excited fans and head out is rude. If he had a reason to rush out of the theatre, ala Christine Ebersole having to rush to Birdland after the last performance of Grey Gardens, that'd be fine. But it seems like he doesn't.
I think you're misunderstanding, jv. The person who wrote in said Lance rushed out ONE NIGHT. It's very possible that it was just this one night, and that other people have taken pictures with him. I just thought it was quite odd, because he does have a reputation as a nice guy.
He was very rude at the stage door.
Indeed I am. Plus I'm listening to Perez Hilton. But now I've reread everything on this thread. Ignore my post. My appologies to Mr. Bass.
So now he is OK again?
No wonder performers think stage door fans are crazy and do what they can to avoid contact.
BE2, was he rude to you personally?
