It seems that if a performing doesn't "look" at you right while he is leaving he is forever labeled "rude."
Of course no one ever considers waiting for a complete stranger while he leaving his work to go home, shoving a piece of paper and pen in his face and insisting he sign his autograph as rude.
It doesnt' matter what the performer has to do after a show - that is really NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
He can be off to his next gig, or want to go home and numb out on Cheetos and bad T.V. His work day is OVER.
Leave them alone.
I agree that a performer is paid to perform. If he/she chooses not to sign a playbill or take photos after the show, that's their right. However, there's no need to be rude - if that's indeed what happened. I suppose being escorted away by bodyguards could be construde as rude when it is in fact protective.
It could be we're a bit spoiled by the amazing amount of performers who are so willing to give us their time after a show. It's not mandatory, it's voluntary. We definitely appreciate their efforts to connect with us beyond the stage just as I'm sure they enjoy the feedback they receive from us as fans.
If Bass chooses not to be a part of the stage door experience - so be it. I can't imagine wanting an autograph from him anyway. Ewww!

First of all, Lance has been nothing but gracious at the stage door when I've seen him there (which is 3 or 4 times).
Second of all, if I were him, I'd get the hell out of there and avoid all the crazies.
I really do agree with and understand what all of you are saying. But to be fair to the "crazies", it is because of them that his shows have an audience, and it's because of them that he's even at the height of fame that he is. Granted, I am sure he's very hard-working, but let's be honest, shows and individual performers would not go THAT far on talent and hard work alone. People need to like them enough to support them. Is it his JOB to sign autographs? No. But I do understand why a fan would have been put off if indeed he had been rude.
I think the rumor was that he has broken up with his most recent boyfriend. He might have just wanted to go home and mourn, rather than be hassled by fans that night.
So Fatone and Bass have been on Broadway...
Can we please get J.C. Chasez in something?
He kicks ass.
I stage doored for the first time after the 8/12 3pm performance of Hairspray and the only reason I did it then was to try and say hi to someone I know in the production.
I had my younger sister with me and she was a big NSYNCer and Lance was her favorite. I told her not to expect to see Lance because I was sure he'd sneak out some other door.
Much to my surprise and my sister's delight not only was Lance the first person out the stage door but he signed for everyone. I don't know if he posed for pictures because I wasn't watching him but from what I did see he wasn't at all rude.
Meeting celebs is such a crazy thing. Two different people can meet one person on different days and have different stories to tell. I mostly have met MLB players and they're MUCH harder to talk with than theatre people. But I've had a lot of positive interactions but I know people who have had negative interactions with the same people. The thing to keep in mind is that they're human and have problems and appointments just like you. While it's nice that they sign autographs they're not obligated to and they might have something to do that's more important. My experience with Lance was a pleasant one and someone else on this board may have a negative one. But maybe there was something going on in his life that overshadowed him signing something for you. I'm not suggesting people stop asking for autographs but to simply remember that these are people with hopes, fears, problems, and joys just like me and you.

Perez Hilton hates hates hates hates hates Lance Bass (No idea why) and NEVER passes up a chance to print something awful about him. I wouldn't believe a word of it.

Kringas. You left out the part where you tried to grope Lance.

Heh - I love that commercial where the guy is waiting outside of an office building and he starts chasing the employees - "You're on my fantasy team!!!!!"

Please, he is so not my type.
Aww, I hope La Bass calls me a fag at the stagedoor. That would make my day.
He definitely signed after the Wednesday matinee. I was with luckydave and Lance DID do an elephant project picture gladly. I'm not sure if he took pictures with anyone, but he was definitely signing. No, he didn't take a huge amount of time, but he signed and spoke.
Lance has been extremely nice at the stage door.
What we should be worried about are the crazies. I witnessed fans standing in front of the door of his car, refusing to move until he hugged them.
