re: Are they flying kristy up to toronto?

Blue Wizard...

My guess is that most people in Toronto won't know the difference. It's not like Stephanie is mega famous and extremely well known. Most people will be happy that the show is, indeed, going on and that they don't have to MISS seeing it because someone is not able to perform.

Being selfish, I was talking about my own experience. re: Are they flying kristy up to toronto?

I was quite excited to hear that Stephanie Block would be opening the tour, and she's the reason I'm seeing WICKED (there's little other reason to pay top dollar for a show I've already seen). I wish Kristy Cates well, etc. etc. etc., but I was really hoping to catch Ms. Block.

Let's hope she gets well soon and is able to perform next week!

Stop hating on Kristy. The girl is incredible. Just like shoshana/ eden/ stephanie, they WOULDN'T allow someone to go on for the likes of Idina Menzel, unless you had the chops. Kristy is awesome.

re: Are they flying kristy up to toronto?

I heard Kristy sing Defying Gravity and Wizard and I at like 3 in the morning at the Duplex a few weeks ago and it was the best I've heard it sung...meaning a healthy, suported sound (and vibrato...meaning she was breathing correctly and singing naturally...not trying to manipulate her natural beatiful sound). She sounded great and acted the song wonderfully. Just because she doesn't riff, scream, and rock star it up does not mean she's a weak singer. On the contrary...she doesn't need the gimmicks and tricks to make her sound wonderful (or the massive amounts of reverb to smooth her out). Kristy is a wonderful singer, a great actress, and I wish her all the success in the world.

Also, did any one notice that she's doing Tom D'Angora's show in a few weeks singing "Defying Gravity"...if you haven't heard her do it she's AWESOME!

amneris, while it may be true that "most" won't know the difference, there are many who will be very disappointed that Stephanie won't be there. Almost everyone I know in Toronto who is going to the show is going to see Stephanie. They either saw her in the early run of Wicked in S.F. or they saw her in BFO. Exchanges will be near impossible because the run is virtually sold out.

True, and there are also a number of fans driving up from the US specifically to see Stephanie.
JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

Guys, people WE know are flying/driving to Toronto to see Stephanie. Meaning, we've probably called "Stephanie is playing Elphaba, and she was great in Boy From Oz, and was part of the original cast of Wicked in San Francisco..." They have to either be theater people themselves, or associate with theater people to really care who the heck is playing Elphaba.

Otherwise, for someone who has heard that Wicked is a great musical, and bought tickets, and knows nothing else - they don't know who Stephanie is. We all do. But no one else does.

Most people also think MAMMA MIA is a wonderful piece of theatre, and have no idea who Sondheim is. They're not the ones posting on this board.
