Just purchased "revival cast recording". Sondheim is brilliant. It caught my attention during Tony awards performance a few years ago but I never have seen it or heard the entire show. WOW. Just WOW.

Yeah, it is a really great show. The revival gave it a real chance to shine because it was otherwise under appreciated in general theatre circles and was really mostly loved by Sondheim fans.
I highly recommend picking up the Original Cast Album as well. Some of the content is different and the Book Depository scene on the OCR is really quite chilling.
Also, just to nitpick, it's spelled Assassins.
Glad you are getting into this great musical!

Thanks for the nitpick on the spelling, I knew it did not look right! I am planning on getting the OBC also!
A friend of mine gave me the revival cast album, and it's all I've been listening to the past couple of days. The music is great, and I like the story - I'm learning a lot about the assassins.
I love it!
I love this show! I wish it had run longer...the cast was amazing! (Especially Michael

I'm listening to that recording right now ... this show is always in a constant battle for the title of 'favorite show' with "Sweeney Todd" and "Cabaret". I wish it had run longer, too ...
I have the OCR. I highly suggest getting the libretto, too, it's really wonderful. But yet .. I can be biased. I bought that in conjunction with the Four by Sondheim book.
lol- That's not biased, that's just supporting the greatest composer Broadway has ever known
In Assassins, the Book Depository sene is i think along with Sweeny the scariest thing i have ever seen in musical theater
If you get into this show you'll be amazed by how often you can get questions right on Jeopardy using your knowledge of presidential assassins and attempted assassins! Seriously!
The revival cast recording is my single favorite cast recording ever. It never gets old for me. I love it.

I wish they had the scene with Mary Catherine Garrison and Becky Ann Baker on the cd where they spoke about going to assassinate the president and the kid keeps running in asking about ice cream I think. "Your kid is an asshole"

My college did the show last semester (and is doing it now againfor a festival). Everytime we did that scene, we all died laughing. No matter how many times we did the scene, it got a huge laugh. Perfect writing.
Great show. One of his best. The OCR is better than the revival however (in terms of the voices.)

I think I may have to disagree. The two mountings each seem to seamlessly assemble a formidable group that makes it difficult to decipher which is better. I think they are each in their own aspects perfect

I've heard both--I checked the OCR out of the library, and own the Revival--and I think that both casts have fabulous performances to boast about. They're both great CD's. I personally LOVE "Unworthy of Your Love"; listened to it a bit on the OCR and skipped it, but it's a favorite on the Revival cast recording.

Oh, I love this show. And I really really really love the Broadway recording with Micahel Cerveris and Alex Gemignani!
I LOVE Assassins! It's just so... creepy. It's amazing.

Just bought the revival cd today when I bought the new Sweeney. I love it. Actually, I think I like it better than the new Sweeney. I was supposed to see this when it was on Broadway but had to cancel at the last minute and give my ticket away. Now I am really bummed that I never got to see it.
Was lucky enough to see the revival at Studio 54. It blew me away. (Pardon the pun!)

I also saw the production at Studio 54. It is one of the best theatre experiences I've ever had. The show is quite unique and I love each recording for different aspects.

I must see this show before I die!! (I plan to see a production of it in April, so I'm thinking I'll live until then.)
