Hi gang,
FOr the 25th anniversary U.S. tour, does anybody have an idea or know if these performances will be the matinees? I have matinee tickets and would prefer to see Lawrence Clayton. Isn't this the first time the role will be alternated? Unless you want to count Dudu Fisher, but that was for religious reasons.
Thanks all!
The actor playing Jean Valjean on Broadway (whoever it was) was never contracted for 8 shows a week, only 7 (due to the vocal demands of the role). They never announced what performance the particular actor was missing, however, but once a week, there would always be an understudy on for Valjean.
Robert Marien had an alternate in the 10th anniversary Broadway cast (Ivan Rutherford), and I think John Owen-Jones was Stig Rossen's alternate in London for a while.
I first heard an alternate Valjean was a possibility for this tour about a year ago, owing to its relatively short stops. Funny how they quietly just released that info.
Adam is correct, and this was also true for the third national tour (and, I assume, the previous two as well).
For the record: I saw Ron Sharpe as Valjean in Philadelphia earlier this year, and he blew me away. Jesús Cristo...
