Just wanted to put it out there that the show is great! Eisa Davis was a special guest, and in top vocal form. I know this show wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but for fans thought I would share what was a fantastic evening.
First of all, any trip to the Harvey Theater is a worthy trip out to Brooklyn (which is so easy anyway since you can see the subway from the theater, the notion of the BAM Bus is so silly to me). It is such a fantastic old theater. I find myself amazed every time I see something there.
The best thing about tonight was the audience was thoroughly enjoying it. Stew and Heidi and the rest of his band gave a fantastic show at St. Ann's last year for "Making it" but were met with a tepid audience that seemed to be made up primarily of subscribers who had no idea what they were seeing. That was certainly the case for a few tonight, but largely it was a very warm welcome complete with a nice standing ovation by most of the crowd.
This show was considerably lighter than Making It, and I thought did an excellent job of highlighting Stew's humor. More importantly, it really showed off his fantastic band, with some great arrangements. Essentially the song cycle was based on joke that Stew and Heidi were quitting music to start a transportation business that caters exclusively to Brooklyn but doesn't actually go anywhere. (Hence the name, Brooklyn Omnibus)Through the use of projections of video shot by Heidi, the show really did just that. From a fantastic song about escaping to Coney Island (with some great old photos of the original Luna Park) to Park Slope, I was thorougly entertained.
Despite doing nothing from Passing Strange (there was mention that the next show they would do songs from it), Eisa Davis really sounded great with the new material as did his other two vocalists. I highly recommend catching one of the remaining performances.
I'm going tonight!

Thanks for the review. Going Friday.
In other PS news, 3 actors from PS are now back performing on Broadway. De'Adre Aziza in Women on the Verge (at the Belasco), Colman Domingo in Scottsboro Boys, and Rebecca Jones in American Idiot.
Also, a few months ago there was a production of Passing Strange in Washington DC (which was very good, I thought), and one is planned in Boston for the Spring.
