Audience Rewards -- spend $17,000 to get a free ticket?!?!

When they announced Audience Rewards, the new "frequent flyer" program set up for the theater, it sounded like a great thing. However, I just looked at their rewards, and in order to get a free ticket with a face value of $65 or more, you have to have 17,000 points. You get one point per dollar spent on discounted tickets, two points for full price tickets, and three points for premium tickets. So to get one free ticket, you have to buy $17,000 worth of discount tickets or $8500 worth of full-price tickets. You can only earn points through buying tickets online -- tickets you buy over the phone or at the box office don't count.

Who in the world is ever going to have enough points to get a free ticket? This program is crazy! And I haven't even mentioned that I don't understand how you get the points -- I bought tickets to four Broadway shows online recently through Telecharge, and I was only asked for my Audience Rewards number once (and I didn't have it on me at the time and didn't get the credit anyway).

That does seem crazy. But I guess it is worth it for people who will see tons of shows within a 20 year period...

That is absolutely absurd. You would have to see around 75 shows (at full price) to qualify for ONE ticket!!!! Unless a person sees the same shows over and over and over again on a weekly basis, it would take at least 5 years to qualify.
