I am trying out for a production of Sound of Music. And I am stuck between picking 4 songs. Though none of the songs have anything to do with the shows this is what I can do at this time but cant decide. So can anyone here help me pick and tell me y they chose what they did? Thanks.

a) i love finishing the hat. i just performed it at a sondheim recital and it's an amazing song.
b) sound of music=r+h
c) younger than springtime=r+h
d) you don't need to sing sondheim for this audition. there's no need.
e) your answer is younger than springtime.

Yes, Younger Than Springtime is the correct answer for this.
BwayBaby18, it really doesn't matter which role that he's going for. Both Younger Than Springtime and Johanna are sung by the male ingenues in that show. The distinction between the two is that one is Sondheim and the other is R&H. The general rule is stay away from Sondheim. Johanna is often done, Younger Than Springtime is by the same composers and (for some strange reason) not performed very often. Also, I'm assuming this is in high school or college, so again picking between those two songs really won't matter because of his age. (My apologies if you're not in school)

Posted: 4/1/05 at 10:24amYou have to be very careful about Sondheim because not everyone can play it. You certainly don't want an accompanist to be less than stellar at your audition.

Posted: 4/1/05 at 10:39amNot knowing your voice, I'd say Younger Than Springtime, is the best bet for the reasons stated above. Sticking to the style/composer of the show you are auditioning for is generally a good idea. Plus, the accompanyist probably knows this one as well (a huge deal!)

Posted: 4/1/05 at 10:43amRight. Well, I was going to play the whole "same composer" card, but it's already been played. So go with the R&H.

Posted: 4/1/05 at 11:25amI would be really careful about doing Sondheim at an audition. It may suit your voice perfectly, but you never know the skill level of the pianist that will playing for you, Sondheim isn't easy to play. However, if you can sing to pre-recorded music for your audition, then by all means sing Sondheim! Just my advice!

Yeah, be nice to your accompanist. :)
And singing Sondheim for an R&H audition doesn't really fit:)
