I'm auditioning for Thoroughly Modern Millie on Monday and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good audition song for Jimmy or Trevor... I've played Cornelius Hackl, Harold Hill, Gaston, and Schroeder recently so I think my voice can handle either...

So I was thinking Without Love/ or It Takes Two from Hairspray
or maybe Goin' Down from Hair (the Gavin Creel Version)
or All I Care About from Chicago...

thoughts?

I actually don't know Hair too well, so I don't know that song. I think those hairspray songs are great choices for Jimmy, and the Chicago song is perfect for Trevor.

Parislove, WHY would you go into an audition with pop-rock material for a show concerning itself with the roaring Twenties? I mean, think about it for a second.

chill out honey, it's not blasphemy.... and I mean don't act like I don't REALIZE that they are rock-ish songs.... but have a little faith in the casting directors and myself

Hunter does bring a good point. Find a piece that fits your voice and the material. If you make a casting director work too hard to see if you would fit, they won't cast you. I would definitely think twice about it.

What are you a tenor/baritone? How much time do you have? What kind of sheet music access do you have?

How about "When I'm Not Near The Girl I Love" from Finian's Rainbow? It's baritenorish, funny, and old-school.

"Be Like the Bluebird" from Anything Goes would work...as would most of the early Cole Porter stuff.

The only problem with Be Like the Bluebird is that it's not supposed to be sung great. If you want to use something from ANYTHING GOES which I'm doing at my school right now actually re: Audition song I would personally choose another song...
