Hey guys...just a few questions. I have an audition for a summer program at a school in the city, and the requirement is to perform one classical (they suggest we stick to Shakespeare)and one contempory monologue. I was wondering if any of you, off hand, had any suggestions for any really goosd monolgues to do, or if you knew of any specific play that may be beneficial to look into. I've been looking through monologue books, but there's a lot to choose from, so any suggestions would be great! Also, I was wondering if classical monolgues should be performed with a specific dialect (I've never touched classical before...so I'm not too sure on this).

If you have any other advice that would be great! Thanks.

I can tell you that if you've never attempted a different dialect, DO NOT try before you go on an audition. As long as the acting is good, it won't matter. Also, stay away from Neil Simon. Every Simon monologue is so overdone by this point, it's not even funny. (Just to clarify, I'm not saying I don't like Neil Simon because he's a genius.) Just my two cents.

"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."

Another piece of advice is if you do find a monologue that you like in a monologue book, take the time to read the play that it is from. You will get a lot more insight into the character and you'll be ready to answer any questions that might be asked of you about it. It really is worth the hour or two it takes to read it.

Copenhagen has some nice and passionate monologues, I remember performing one in a class, and I know there are some very passionate speaches, especially by Heisenberg (SP?)... For Shakespeare... the crispins day speach from henry V... although probably overdone is amazing

You, you are the worst thing to happen to musical theater since Andrew Lloyd Webber... and you I just don't like you.

Go to this website: www.whysanity.net/monos/others.html

They have some good play monologues, as well as movie ones and some musicals.

You've gotta have heart AND music
