Is anyone else going to the concert tomorrow evening? (I guess it's tonight, actually.) Pretty excited about it; I think it may be a similar program to the New Year's Eve concert from Lincoln Center a few years ago.

Also, I've heard that Newark is a little on the sketchy side and wondered what experiences others have had going to and coming from NJPAC by way of NYC. Tips?

If you're coming from NYC, I assume you're not driving, so the best way to get there is to take the train from Penn station to either Newark Penn or Broad Street stations and then take the light rail, which stops right outside NJPAC. You could walk from Newark Penn as it's only a few blocks, but, honestly, I wouldn't, especially if you are alone. The area immediately around NJPAC is fine, though, especially as there are always cops directing traffic before and after a show.

Should be a good show, enjoy it.

I can't wait for this concert! We're going through the same issues, trying to figure out how to get there. But I'm confident we'll figure it out.

where in New York are you coming from? if you're coming from anywhere that's not all the way downtown, then you'll have to take one of the NJ Transit Trains from Penn Station, like gilliane said. if you happen to be close to WTC, then you can take the PATH train from WTC to Newark. both trains wind up at Newark Penn, so then you can just walk or take the light rail to NJPAC.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I'm just going to take the train from Penn to Penn. Seems easier than the PATH (I'm uptown). Thank you for the info.

Just got back, amazing!

selections from sound of music, many flops of Soundheim, 110 in shade (old maid), Apple tree (gorgeous), the king and I (I could of danced all night), something from state fair, wizard of oz (somewhere over the rainbow), Charlie and choc. factory- orginal (pure imagination), song written for her about her husband playing the bass, o gosh can't even remember half of them I was so stunned...

Lot's of talking to audience, interaction w/audience on danced all night. Nice stories. Seemed like very humble personality...

Until the big sphere above the audience momentarily lit up, illuminating the audience. Her attitude was very different:

"we need to stop. Ok, is that going to be on? Can we turn that off. You're a lovely audience, but I just need the lights off...(stalling)"

Wow! showed a whole different side of her. truly though, not that prima donna-ish, but totally different from the way she was talking to the audience than the lighting crew.

Anyway, a fab. performance, just wish I could remember more of the songs. lol.

just thought I'd share. cheers!

Sounds like an amazing night! Wish I could have been there. Thanks for the report. I love Audra.

Another song she sang was from Fiorello. Hardly any of the songs were contemporary. She has an amazing voice. Personally though I wish she sang more songs I recognized, but other than that she was very good.
