August Wilson's American Century Cycle at the Greene Space

A friend clued me into this, and I'm posting this because I don't think it's gotten much press. These are staged readings, done for the purpose of recording all 10 plays. But I'm excited because they're doing The Piano Lesson with much of the cast from the recent Signature production, which I loved (like many people). I'm really excited to experience it again, especially the singing! (I hope it's the same or similar.) Chuck Cooper is a really busy guy, but he's reprising his role in this, also Rosalind Ruff and the Darden brothers. The director is Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Tickets are only $40, and I think each play is one night only. Here's the link for more info, and if anyone can shed some light on this, I would be appreciative! I wish I could see Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and some of the others, but the times don't work for me.

Here is a story from the Wall Street Journal online:

We talked about this earlier in another thead, but it's worth noting that all the performances are sold out!!! If anyone has any tickets they'd like to part with I'd gladly purchase them. Watching Fences right now, kind of upset I missed Monday's stream of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

In the link below, the schedule at The Greene Space, a list of August Wilson's plays organized by when he wrote them, and another by the year in which the plays are set; pictures of the opening, and a video in which artistic director Ruben Santiago-Hudson and several performers explain their love for Wilson's work.

I do not think they are available to watch after the love stream ends. They are staged readings, so there isn't much to see. I believe the audio recordings are being commercially released at some point in the future.

I explain that in my story, actually. They will be given to public radio stations sometime around January to broadcast as radio dramas. It's not clear what other plans they have for it. But my understanding is this is all non-profit, not commercial.
