If you enjoy nude puppets, then yes!
Plus it's hysterical.

Posted: 10/22/03 at 6:50pmfrom a whole other thread about this show, some who got the CD could not detect the magic of the show itself. The reaction of the audience and the visuals are very important. i'd say see it whether you like the CD or buy the CD first or not. i think the show is GENIUS, but every opinion is subjective. i just don't think a recording alone can do the concept justice.

Ideally, you should see the show first. If you liked "If You Were Gay" , you'll love the rest of the show. And you'll appreciate the CD even more.
I play it at LEAST one a day. And every time I listen to it, it seems to get stronger and funnier.

DEFINITELY SEE THE SHOW FIRST!!
I saw the show having no clues except some song titles--it was a blast!
The CD is excellent in that it retains a good deal of the show's humor and surprises. Therefore, I'm not letting my roomies hear the CD until they have had a chance to see the show.
My Urinetown (and The Producers) experience wasn't as fun as I knew a good chunk of the jokes by the time I saw the show. I still enjoyed the show, but I bet it would have been more of a blast the other way around.

Posted: 10/23/03 at 1:30amActually I always enjoy a show more if I'm familiar with the score. So I always listen to the CD beforehand. There's nothing like seeing a familiar song that you love being performed live. If you don't know you love the song, you won't savor the experience as much, in my opinion.

I have not been able to see the show except on televison bits and yet I find it absolutely hysterical! It is one of my favorite cds (that and Clay Aiken's new one....)
...god I realized just how gay I am just now huh.....

Posted: 10/23/03 at 1:55amsuperperson--I find that true on shows like Nine, Les Miz, Saigon, Millie, or anything by Sondheim, etc.--but not a show like this. You really want to experience it all live. Then buy the CD, then see the show again. I'm sure I'll love the songs even more when I see it again--but it wasn't as if they were difficult melodically or lyrically. I instantly enjoyed the songs. And they get better with every listen. =)
