Saw the matinee today and loved it. Thought everybody was dead on. It is moving, deep, and comical all at the same time. I saw Mark Rufalo at the stage door before the show started, along with Ambrose, which was very cool. I loved the set and I loved the dog! I definitely reccomend seeing it before it closes!
What did you think about it before going into the theater?? Just curious-cuz it doesn't really interest me, but everyone raves about it.
I really knew nothing about the show, except for a brief synopsis, so I was very open-minded. After seeing it, I am really glad I went. It is deinitely worth it.
Yea I think I'm going to go see it now. Thanks
You're very welcome!

Does this play involve, at the end, a [SPOLER ALERT]:
the death of the grandfather? I'm only asking because I believe I watched a very good teleplay version that starred Walter Mathau late one night and I can't for the life of me remember its name.
****SPOILER*****
Yes, the grandfather "slips" off the roof at the end...He commits suicide.

Thank you! Now i know for sure it was that play I saw on PBS...what a great play this is...I hope I can now see it live!
One of my favorite productions in years. For me, Ben Gazzara, Mark Ruffalo, Richard Topol, and Zoe Wanamaker were the standouts. Didn't like Pablo Schreiber at first, but he grew on me. Ambrose was very good, but seemed disconnected from her character at several points. Updated On: 6/17/06 at 07:28 PM
Zoe was amazing!
oh hey! I was there at the matinee performance too. Highly enjoyable performance, did not even know what the play was bout...just knew it was a play, nicely surprised how much I enjoyed it. The father is hilarious, I must say...and the dog was so calm, I swear it was drugged! hehe. Such a cute dog though. Mark Ruffalo was also very good, he picked a good character to portray on Broadway, was sympathetic yet fiery at the same time.
I got Studentix tickets, and got seats 5th row center. Amazing seats, great performance.
I had $25 TDF tickets and they put us front row mezzanine which was not bad at all, but the bar was kind of annoying.
mint0621--By studenttix, do mean student rush??? I just want to know if they give the best seats...
John, I'm pretty sure she means Lincoln Center's Studentix program. You sign up and can buy $20 tickets to LCT shows in advance. I'm a member and also got a great 5th row seat for Awake and Sing!. It's a great program.

#1 Elphie, I am a girl, btw.... hehe. I think my avatar throws people off.
Yes, the Studentix program is an online student tickets program sponsored by Lincoln Center, which allows you to buy one $20 student ticket for each show at the Lincoln Center theaters, ahead of time. Unfortunately, student registration is closed at this time, but you can be waitlisted.

I'm so sorry, mint! You're right, the avatar threw me off. I'll edit my last post.
btw, my avatar is of Rasta Thomas, the dance god...who also performed "Eddie" in the Movin' Out tour for the past few years.
He is also known in the dance world, I had just seen him perform in a modern dance performance in Chelsea when I took a photo with him. I cropped myself out of the photo. hehe.
Yeah, Studentix is a great program (it'll definitely come in handy for Coast of Utopia this fall!). I think I'm going to try for tix for Awake and Sing! this week. I want to catch it one more time before it closes.
I wish I could see it again but I already have Drowsy planned for Friday and then Spelling Bee Saturday and maybe TWS saturday.
Mabs, if you've already bought a ticket through Studentix to Awake and Sing!, I don't think you're allowed to buy another one. I'm pretty sure you can only get one ticket to each production. But you can do rush the day of the show.
I'm seeing it today at 3! YAY! Anyone else seeing it today?
Thanks for the heads-up for future reference, Elph, but I got a comp the first time I saw it. I've had Studentix for a while now (since just after King Lear closed...I think that's when they started it) but I've yet to use it. I haven't gotten my tix yet, but I think I'll wait til Monday or Tuesday when they release some house seats (see if I can get anything better than row L, which was all that was coming up yesterday).

I saw this about a week and a half ago and it was AMAZING. Everyone in it was beyond words. Zoe Wannamaker probably deserved the Tony more than Frances De la Tour, but I don't intend to take away from Frances as she was great as well.
And I know some people were a little dismayed when Pablo got a nomination, but he deserved it.
It's a shame Wannamaker wasn't nominated for Lead Actress. I really think she could just as easily have been considered Lead Actress as Featured, and if she had been nominated in that category, I think she probably would have taken it. As great as Cynthia Nixon was, I think Wannamaker would have had the edge being in a show that's still running.
And I thought Schreiber was good, but I still think a Copper (either Dominic or Bradley, probably Dominic) should have taken that spot. Ah well.
Definitely looking forward to seeing it again. Though, if I have one complaint, I do think Ruffalo's accent's a bit more Boston than Bronx (but I still love him)!
