BC/EFA Easter Bonnet Competition 2023

Did anyone go yesterday and/or this afternoon? This is the first Easter Bonnet in 4 years and I would love to hear some thoughts on the skits and performances.

It was good today, and the crowd seemed happy to be there.

The funniest skit was probably Bad Cinderella. It began with cast members reading from a half dozen reviews: “Peter Marks….”, “Jesse Green….”, with funny lyrics concluding “They can shove it…people love it.”  In a separate bit, Carolee Carmelo noted that she has been in two plays this year:  Bad Cinderella and Bad 1776.  Will Swenson and Victoria Clark did some dad jokes about being in plays with younger actors.  Phantom cast members did a number from the retired actors’ home. The Hamilton piece was a dance number choreographed by Thayne Jasperson.  There was a lot of variety in the performances, all good.

The awards were given out by Josh Groban, Jessica Chastain, Lea Michele, and Annaleigh Ashford, all of whom looked ravishing. I think it is wonderful that so many actors were there for it on a Tuesday afternoon.  (Ben Platt, Micaela Diamond, Christian Borle, J Harrison Ghee, all six Six queens, and many more were there.)  Bonnie Milligan sang the “Help Is On The Way” closing anthem this year.
