A feature film adaptation of William Hauptman & Roger Miller's 1985 Tony-winning musical, Big River, is in the works. Douglas Lyons is set to pen the script. This project is being developed in partnership with Hauptman, Mary Miller, the musical's original producer Rocco Landesman, Emily Baer, and Jason Seagraves.

This is wild! I’m a pretty big- Big River apologist/fan, but I can’t imagine this making money, and it’s hard to imagine a studio willing to lose money on a problematic property like Huck Finn

This is about as unexpected as Kiss of the Spiderwoman. I am totally here for it. Would love to see more film adaptations of less well-known shows. Not something we've seen a lot of over the past 20 years.
Muddy Water is one of my favorite showtunes. Consider me intrigued

The Deaf West production is one of my Top 10 Broadway experiences of all time. The Encores production was "meh".
I look forward to a film adaptation if it comes to pass.
Hopefully they'll cast an actual child in the child role.
