I'm surprised there has been no discussion about this show, which was just announced as returning to the Public. I saw it in Public LAB, their developmental program, last year and it is easily the most inventive, ridiculous, fun musical I saw all year. It's a little bit like Toxic Avenger in it's silliness and it draws on that Colbert/Mad TV/SNL sensibility of sending up iconic figures. The lead actor, whose name escapes me, was dead on as the swaggering, sexy pioneer populist and the music was not only hysterical, but rather good. I still have the melody for "populism, yeah, yeah" stuck in my head.

YES! I had no idea this was happening! I was lucky to see Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson in Los Angeles nearly 2 years ago, and it was fantastic. Fun and dark at the same time :). "Populism, yeah yeah!" is on my iPod. I'm glad to see it come to New York!
The lead wouldn't be Benjamin Walker, would it? He was in the LA show and honestly I can't see anyone else playing Andrew f*cking Jackson!

Yes, that's exactly who it is - just looked it up on the Public's website. He was fantastic (and I also just read that he's engaged to Meryl Streep's daughter, whom he met on Les Liaisons Dangerouses.)
I'm so excited to see this again - I had a single and wanted to go back with my friends, but they ended up selling out.
How did you get the music on your iPod?? I. MUST. HAVE. IT.

It's was available for download off their myspace but doesn't appear to be anymore...check your PMs in a few minutes though :)
Would you mind pm'ing those to me, too? I would love that! Thanks! :)
Was this the show that billed itself as an "emo musical" at one point?
Is that accurate, or was I thinking of another show?

THANKS! I had no clue it was coming back. Is it the same production or a more fleshed out show? I really liked it.
