Posted: 12/1/05 at 12:28pmI agree also. Saw the show 2 weeks ago. I hope they have tightened it up a bit as it is a good show with wonderful music, sets, costumes and performers.

Critics will skewer this show if it hasn't improved since i saw it (second night.) Hopefully it won't matter. After sitting through Brooklyn, Good Vibrations, In My Life etc, I wouldn't mind a problematic but well-intentioned hit.

Posted: 12/1/05 at 4:02pmI suspect they will be hard on the book. I hope they have worked on the pacing. It was a bit rushed when I saw it. Also, I hope they trimmed the Africa number down at the opening of the second act. It was a bit too long and Lion Kingish. But I agree with Michael Bennett, the reviews probably won't matter. I spoke with the president of Denver Center Attractions when I returned from New York last week and he asked me what I thought of it (He has not seen it yet) and I told him, I smell a tour.

Posted: 12/1/05 at 4:07pmI think they'll mostly be hard on the direction and the score. I think critics will take some exception to the material being given such a "feel good" treatment. Basically, the same criticism that was thrown Spielberg when the film was released.

Posted: 12/1/05 at 5:56pmInteresting. I really liked the score. It was better than I expected. I grew up on Brenda Russell's music (Be it sung by her or other artists). I will agree on direction also. That's were the pacing problems come in. Well...we will see tomorrow!
