Another comment. I loved the way they performed the songs and wonder if there's any chance of their being recorded as done in this production. "Slow Down, Johnny," with which I wasn't familiar, really made a big impression on me. I had assumed it was a scarcity from some old Coward show and was very surprised that it was introduced in the relatively late Coward show, Sail Away. I've had the album for years and remember it mainly for The Little One's ABCs and Why Do the Wrong People Travel? Sure enough, it's on the album, sung by James Hurst, but totally unrecognizable from the way it's done in BE. In fact, it comes across as downright awful. Anyone second the motion for a recording?

I would of course second this motion. Kneehigh has a cd "So Good at Love" out of a music from their shows that does include "Go Slow Johnny." They were selling this at St. Anns. There are a couple of other songs from Brief Encounter on it, but it has other productions as well so it would be nice if they did a full cast recording maybe including a cover or or two that they play after the show also?
I would imagine that a bit later in the run that they will sell this CD I mentioned?
I was hoping they would have the CD for sell. My friend said they have it in the UK, but of course, I can't find it anywhere online. After the show yesterday they played "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Time After Time." Brilliant!
I saw the show in Brooklyn last year and fell in love, and I was still in love when I saw it at Studio 54. I do miss the intimacy of the other theater, but I'm so happy to see something so brilliant and innovative on Broadway. I'm so glad it's not a crappy sitcom wannabe script. It's something different! The acting is great, and the singing is beautiful. I didn't care for the new Stanley. His voice is great, but his acting wasn't as solid or cute/quirky as the other guy. But maybe he will settle into it more. I just loved everything about it, and will probably be seeing it a few more times before it closes. Oh, and the poster design is great! If only they had color playbills!

I saw this at the matinee yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed it, although I would have to say there isn't much "there" there. I know the movie and the Noel Coward one-acter well, and was grateful that the audience was respectful of the veddy-1930's, veddy English love story. The staging was effective but not particularly ground-breaking, somewhere between John Doyle minimalism and ENRON Impressionism. (I found the whole chandelier thing awkward and unnecessary, though.) The broad working class comedy was fun, and the music was first rate. Like so many other people who have seen this, I thought "Go Slow, Johnny" was the gem of this production, a marvelous song, perfect in its performance and in its match to the stage action. So I recommend this as a good day in the theater without being able to really rave about anything in particular.

Anyone know if there is a merchandise table at Brief Encounter yet with posters? Thanks
I took my husband to today's matinee and he likes very few shows (absolutely hates musical comedy), well he adored this one. Couldn't stop talking about it. I agree. It was a fun, easy to watch afternoon at the theater. I liked the venue and my seats were in Row N, Left Orch. Excellent view. Since they are at the very end of previews, guessing this is the final version. I believe this will be the sleeper hit of the fall season. Oh, and I also have no idea whether this should be classified a play or musical.
Just saw this last night and I have nothing but praise. I went into this knowing nothing at all about the production and frankly not expecting to get blown away. But from the very beginning I started to notice the little touches and innovative staging that made this show so damn enjoyable. I went with three friends that basically don't like anything with a tune...and they loved this. The acting was great, to the point where I forgot this was a play and fell into the story as if it was a well directed movie. The background music always gave it that great cinematic effect. I can't recommend this enough if your looking for something different, and a great night out.
