Is anyone else going to this????? The auditions were so cool. I can't wait!!! The contestants must be amazing...there were HUNDREDS of people at the open call.


NYMF BROADWAY IDOL CONTESTANTS CHOSEN; ROUNDS BEGIN SEPTEMBER 15TH AT NEW WORLD STAGES!

Over 300 aspiring musical theatre performers attended The New York Musical Theatre Festival’s Broadway Idol open call Monday, September 11th at the Gibson Showroom. Hopefuls were judged by Broadway actors Eden Espinosa, Manoel Felciano, Donna Lynne Champlin (who stepped in to accompany a few lucky auditioners!), Marty Thomas, Liz McCartney, Amanda Lipitz and the casts of TARZAN and [title of show].

The nine contestants who will be competing for the title of Broadway Idol and a NYMF-produced showcase concert at Ars Nova are Shannon Amiry, Elizabeth DeRosa, Saum Eskandani, Jaclyn Huberman, Beth Kirkpatrick, Terry Lavell, Jamieson Lindenburg, Jeff McLean and Katie Thompson. They have never appeared on Broadway.

Round One: My Favorite Things will take place this Friday, September 15th at 11 PM The nine finalists will each sing a Broadway song of their choice and be critiqued by a panel of celebrity judges.

The six with the most audience votes will advance to Round Two: Anyone Can Idol, which will be held the following Friday, September 22nd at 11 PM. Each performer will sing a song by Stephen Sondheim and be critiqued by a panel of Broadway actors who have famously appeared in Sondheim shows.

The top three will advance to Round Three: A Star Is Born, which will be held on Friday, September 29th. These three final performers will get two shots at a “signature song”: one that plucked another Broadway performer from obscurity and the one they’d like to make their own.

Celebrity judges will include Stephen Schwartz, Lillias White, Marc Shaiman, Denis O'Hare, Cheyenne Jackson, Chip Zien, Felicia Finley, Kevin Cahoon, Lonny Price, and Marin Mazzie. Seth Rudetsky hosts.

Broadway Idol is the main event at NYMF @ Nite, NYMF’s Festival party series, held every Friday during the Festival from 9PM-12:30AM at New World Stages. Tickets are $10 and include one free drink, music, dancing, entertainment and Broadway Idol. Each night is themed: Hawaiian Tropic sponsors “Luau” on September 15th , which features a limbo contest, “Speakeasy” features Brooklyn band Project Jenny Project Jan on the 22nd and “NYMFtoberfest” ends the series on the 29th.

NYMF @ Nite is hosted by The NYMFettes, the Festival’s official ambassadors of musical theatre cheer.

I worked with Jameson a few times...what a talented guy. So fantastic. I can't make it, but I have my fingers crossed for him.

I am SO in love with the Two Emily Skinners. *swooning* (Although the one was more of a Wynonna Skinner...)

Jac was also absolutely amazing...she's got total star qual.

Jac, Jamieson (could he BE cuter?!?!), the Two Emilys (Beth K. and Katie Thompson) and Elizabeth DeRosa (who, honestly, was my least favorite of ALL) are going on to the next round.
