announced yesterday that they're aiming for the 2010 season.

I've had the pleasure of hearing a couple of demo tracks and the music was actually fantastic. it's Yazbek, of course.

worried it just won't translate on stage.

Thoughts?

It sounds very...odd. I'm all for a moving story and Chinese folklore and whatnot, but it's going to be a stretch to get people to disassociate the show with the iconic imagery of Kung Fu action films.

First suggestion: Change the title. "Bruce Lee: Journey to the West" First of all, "Bruce Lee" conjurs certain images as mentioned before. And "Journey to the West" is more reminiscent of old western films or the Gold Rush. I hope the script shows more creativity.

It does sound strange, but oddly interesting.

Talk about a name change, the unfortunately monikered Dou Dou Huang will do the choreography.
I guess in Asia it's Ok to name your child Dou Dou, that wouldn't fly in any English speaking country.

I'm willing to give it a chance, but it really does sound like a terrible idea for a musical. A really terrible idea, as a matter of fact.

What gives me faith in it is Bartlett Sher's involvement.
He's too smart to get involved with a poor project.

This will be a great opportunity for a lot of Asian musical theatre actors...

Dou Dou Huang is male. Who cares if his name would fly in any English speaking country!

David Henry Hwang is writing the book. Director Bart Sher's stepfather is Chinese-Hawaiian.

Bruce Lee was a wise man and a philosopher, he was a great deal more than Chop Sock movies.
