I love the old theatres.

Except for the ladies rooms.
All small, and all at least a level or two up or down.

Personally I like the Virginia with its Spanish-themed decor. Least fave, esthetically, is the Ambassador.

The New Amsterdam is the most beautiful theatre that currently exists. However, the balcony has these support "poles" that somtimes inhibit sight lines.

The Ford Center has the best lobby. That really cool oval atrium and dome.

The American Airlines has a pretty good auditorium. But the mezzanine seating is one of the most bizarre I've seen. They really should have taken out two rows of seats to create an aisle. But making people climb the stairs to get to either the left or right of the side aisles can be really annoying.

The worst theatre, in terms of seating configuration, is the Ambassador. If you're seated too far left or right to the stage, you have 1/3 of the stage cut off from view.

I'm not sure I like the Virgina Theatre's decor. It's a little too southwestern, with the adobe coloured interior. And the "windows" on either side of the stage are bizarre.

Yeah your right about the Ambassador. Im not sure if you know where im talking about but, the far left and right of the mezz seating you miss more than half of the stage. They just shouldnt sell those seats in my opinion

I like the Neil Simon, it housed my first NYC/Bway Show...Music Man with Craig Bierko. I sat in the rear Mezzanine at the Lunt and hated it. I'm 6 feet tall and I had no leg room, also it was so far a way, that Mezz is huge and I felt like I was a million miles away, it was beautifully decorated though. I love the intimacy of the Plymouth and the Golden and even the big ones like Majestic and Hirschfeld have a very intimate feel!.

Check out some of the historical photos of the Ambassador sometime. You just would not believe what it once looked like. It had the same type of illuminated sign on its exterior like the one that was recreated for the Walter Kerr. The interior was stunningly beautiful and lavish, but I believe at some point in its history, the theatre was used as a tv studio, and it was modified to its current blander decor.
