I know there was a post about a month ago about "which is your least favorite bway theatre"...Im just wondering. I was in Times Square today and I just love looking at all the marquis and Theatre designs. Some are so old and yet look so new. Some look their age however and need some help
Im just wondering...not so much your favorite, but which bway theatre's (mainly the larger ones) do you think are the best looking. Inside as well as out. My favorite would have to be the Broadway. I know many people like the Gershwin but thats mostly to do with its sightlines, it's not really that gorgeous of a theatre. Also, which theatres do you think are going to need some updates and need some cleaning up (inside and out)? Thanks.

The New Amsterdam Theatre must be one of the most beautiful houses in the world. It's a shame it houses a show like THE LION KING.

The New Amsterdam is amazing, and Matt_G, I am with you on Lion King.
I do like the old theatres.
I like to imagine that I am going to the theatre 100 years ago.

I recently saw Wonderful Town at the Al Hirshfeld Theater (formerly the Martin Beck) and it was quite beautiful.

I'd have to say... the Ford Center on 42nd. St. ,Belasco Theatre, and Imperial Theatre.

i've only been in a few ny theaters.. since ive only been to nyc twice (re: BWAY THEATRES...BEAUTIFUL...NOT SO BEAUTIFUL), so i've only seen the neil simon, gershwin, ambassador, and majestic. the gershwin is definitely more modern and comfortable. we have shea's up here in buffalo which looks just like the majestic, but much bigger and roomier (except towards the top of the balcony)... if you love the majestic, you would LOVE sheas... i think both are beautiful.

The MAMMA MIA! Theatre is the most attractive since it was rebuilt for MAMMA MIA!

The BOY FROM OZ Theatre is a **** box and I wish they would blow it.

The PHANTOM OF THE OPERA Theatre is my favorite just because PHANTOM is the best show on Broadway.

The Cadillac Winter Garden is a beautiful theatre. I was more amazed at it and it's decor than Mamma Mia, haha.

But the most beautiful theatre I have ever been in was Shubert when I saw Gypsy. There was just somethin' about the green seats and pink/gold walls that was simply breathtaking to me.

I love the New Amsterdam. I haven't been in too many but after the history I received on it, it just has such personality.

bronxboundexpress- the imperial is a gorgeous theatre! Those chandeliers are enough to make one dazzled. In my opinion, the Majestic is not the most beautiful theatre, it is nice, but not entirely beautiful. The New Amssterdam is also a magnificent theatre.

The St. James Theatre (home of The Producers) was quite impressive, but its the only one I've been in.

The Wang Center in Boston was also breathtaking upon first entering.

I love the intricate decoration on the ceiling of Studio 54. I like how its small..more intimate. That place certainly has history. I like to think of the huge transition.

I loved the Palace when I saw "Aida" a few years ago. I was so awestruck but then again, it may because it was only my second trip to a Broadway theatre.

My most favorite theatre on the inside is the Walter Kerr, it is amazing, by far my favorite as far a decoration and beauty go. I also think the Broadway is very nice, I like all the pink. The St. James, Majestic, Shubert, and Hirschfeld are all equally as beautiful.

I think that Lion King should move into the Minskoff, it is big and the Lion King could fill it. Other shows do deserve the New Amsterdam, it is a fantastic house.

My least fave's are Marquis, Minskoff, and Gershwin, they are all modern and dull.

The Shubert is nice, but I love the Plymouth. It's got an old-ish feel to it, while the marquees are now Brooklyn, which is anything but old. The seats are nice, and the chandeliers inside are sooo pretty. I'm a big chandelier person.

The lobby for the Imperial is by far the nicest I've been in. Best theatre overall though... I'd porbably have to say the Hirschfeld or the shubert. Both have great history there. Most shows in recent memory there have lasted atleast 9 months which isn't bad.

p.s. doesn't disney own the New Amsterdam and that means they'd keep Lion King there?

Yes, Disney owns the New Amsterdam. Too bad. Looks like The Lion King is here to stay.

I have a soft spot for the Plymouth since it was the first Broadway theatre I saw. I also think the Al Hirschfeld is very pretty.

I agree with those of you who don't care for the more modern theatres. The Gershwin and the Marquis have no character. Good thing I've always seen good shows there!

The Lunt?! Wow! Never expected it to be on this list. It used to be the last choice house for big musicals, despite its excellent location. It received a much-needed spruce up prior to Beauty and the Beast moving in from the Palace, but it could still use some aesthetic rethinking...

The Neil Simon housed some of the greatest shows of all time (Anything Goes, Annie, Company...) and it's a shame because I too think it could be a beautiful theatre once again if it was given new seats and a new paint job
