I'd KILL for this to come to Broadway. Shuler Hensley is PERFECT casting.

Further proof that creatives read Broadway message boards too much. Just because a tiny cadre of musical misfits love your movie doesn't mean its worth anything.
This movie sucked. The music was terrible. It was a mistake.
THE END. Full Stop. Right? Right....?
But hey, you're Disney...if you have the money to pump jizz into a corpse and expect it to have an orgasm...go for it. It just strikes me as a strange way to avoid admitting you made a mistake in the first place.
I know plenty of people who loved the movie. Although a big Disney Dork, I've never seen it. But a live action Disney musical with Alan Menken can't be all that bad. I'm excited about this. The cast, as performers, are fantastic.

One of the few movies I walked out on. While I like a few of the songs, the script was so humorless and the thing was so leaden, and yes, it has a cult following that consists of people who saw it at a young and impressionable age - the way many films that are bad (The Goonies comes to mind) live on in beloved memory of the eight year old who saw it. I've attempted to watch Newsies many times over the years and it is never less than a complete bore.
Young and impressionable is a great response to those that love this. And I know many that do....I'm not one of them. I was utterly bored.
Maybe with Harvey coming in, he'll fix the book up. You never know. Not all film to stage transfers are shot for shot remakes or even contain the same plot points or characters most of the time. Of course, I too, could be wrong.
Love the score (Santa Fe is a favorite) but the movie was god awful. An absolute bore.
It's just a bad idea. Oppressed newsboys? It's almost too camp.
It's been awhile since I saw the movie, but I do remember thinking that Anne Margaret had no purpose at all except to sing a couple of songs that had nothing to do with anything.
I still enjoy this movie a ton, however, I always stop watching after King of New York! LOL

Here's a young Christian Bale singing "Santa Fe" and showing his dancing skills.
