re: BWW Video Show Preview: Curtains - A First Look!

Bummer, I was hoping to see Megan Sikora's number. That's one of the things that stood out most to me when I saw it at the Ahmanson. It's an enjoyable show. I personally don't think the clip did the show justice, but clips rarely do.

I actually think the clip showcases some of the poorer moments in the show. Why show the slow part of Thataway when you could show the 22 upbeat moments?

It is a great video montage, but does the show move and dance that quickly? This clip leads you to beleive there's non stop dance in the show. If so, I must see it.

It's a very dance heavy show, hence the presence of Ziemba and Racey.

However, the entire show isn't dancing.

But yes, one of the many strengths of the production is how Scott Ellis keeps the show moving so fluidly, especially with the amount of set pieces and large cast.

I song i remember most is "I miss the Music" which is a beautiful solo for Jason. It is so gorgeous!

I have already seen the video clip 4 times now. I need to study Spanish!

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

re: BWW Video Show Preview: Curtains - A First Look!

Well, I've tried watching it 6 or 7 times, and it doesn't work. Cutting in and out, and stopping completely during Debra's solo. Anyone have any advice?

The clips are sadly more exciting than the show, but at the same time, I think it gives away FAR too much of the David Hyde Pearce/Jill Paice number.

Thanks, Craig, I'll give that a shot.

I'll try that!

ETA: That didn't work either. Why am I the only one having this problem?

Try a different browser? That may or may not help. What kind of connection do you have?

"I actually think the clip showcases some of the poorer moments in the show. Why show the slow part of Thataway when you could show the 22 upbeat moments?"

Because Thataway showcases Ziemba and they wanted to focus partly on her in the video since she's a main character.

CapnHook: The female love interest is Niki Harris, played by Jill Paice.

re: BWW Video Show Preview: Curtains - A First Look!

It looks like the show that Gower Champion never directed. It really feels like a late 50's early 60's show. but my sources also tell me the right hook you don't see coming is the clever book.

If that's the case, then the staging is a clever stylisttic choice indeed.

And I hate it when people look at a few minutes from the show and make god-like "I hate it" "It doesn't work" comments. Remember, Pippin sold because the showed THE ONLY two good minutes in the show. I think I could cut a very VERY unappealing trailer from "Wicked" and "Rent" and "Chorus Line" and "Les MIz" if I was inclined to. AND ALSO perhaps they are holding back the good stuff because they don't want to give away the plot points.....

re: BWW Video Show Preview: Curtains - A First Look!

As with all video shot during a rehearsal/performance (no offense Craig) I suspect the show is better than what we are seeing.

As for DH being a "brilliant" actor, I have to disagree. He is a charming performer and has a wonderfully sweet quality, but he is basically a variation of Niles Crane in everything I have seen him do. Has he ever done a down and dirty character?

Oh and seeing that clip made me wonder if Harvey Fierstein was ever considered for Monk's role? Perhaps a replacement?
PEACE.

Remember, Pippin sold because the showed THE ONLY two good minutes in the show.

Which wasn't even in the show to begin with if I remember correctly!
