Has anyone ever gone backstage by just asking an actor or someone involved with the show, or do you have to actually know them? Just wondering.

I've been backstage of two b'way shows the last 3 or so years without personally knowing the person that brought me backstage, but I'm lucky that way. (But I've never actually ASKED anyone.)
Back in the 80s it was a lot easier -- and I use to get backstage all the time.

I went backstage at Everyday Rapture (won a contest) and Memphis (workshop with Brad Bass), but those were with connections.
Unless you know the actor/crew member personally, been randomly selected by someone in the show, won a contest, or actually work on the show...then you aint getting back there. If you ask an actor to take ya backstage...that puts them in a very awkward situation of having to turn ya down nicely (some may just say "bitch ya crazy" lol)
I've been backstage at Jersey Boys and Ragtime, the former by brief encounter and the latter by personal connection

Unless you know someone, it's pretty hard to do it unless you win it somehow, or donate to something like BE/EFA. I actually did one last year by donating to an off-Broadway theater. I posted this recently, but looks like they're doing a bunch again this year for various donations...
