An Internet "shill" is someone who posts on these message boards with the sole purpose of marketing the show. For example, they'd start threads about a show to get people talking about it, or they'd post testimonials (fake or real) about how much they loved the show, etc. There's a fine, fine line between a shill and a genuine fan, but IMO the difference is that the shill is doing it for pure marketing reasons (they're either paid or get recompense in some way).
It's a dirty business, and a pretty lame way of getting people to see or stir up hype about a show. Check out the thread link below and check out lovesclassic's post on public relations; I found it very insightful.
