Let me try to spell this out for you, Wanna Be a Foster
Unless he's an idiot and has stupid lawyers - and Hal Luftig isn't and he doesn't - then he and the other producers are bound to make a great deal of money on this show eventually. Yes, they didn't recoup in the first run, we all know that. But at the same time, they managed to raise the funds for a very successful tour (which would indicate its financial soundness and worthiness) and are probably raking it in (considering that the original producing team are involved in producing the tour.) With good tax accountants, they have probably taken a loss on the initial investment - as have all the investors - and moved on. Over its lifetime, this show will clean up.
And again, the financials are so complex, what with a major studio and MTV involved - and unless you've seen the books (which you haven't) or have been given the specifics of the financial breakdown (which you haven't) then you and I are both just speculating.
