Let me try to spell this out for you, Wanna Be a Foster
Unless he's an idiot and has stupid lawyers - and Hal Luftig isn't and he doesn't - then he and the other producers are bound to make a great deal of money on this show eventually. Yes, they didn't recoup in the first run, we all know that. But at the same time, they managed to raise the funds for a very successful tour (which would indicate its financial soundness and worthiness) and are probably raking it in (considering that the original producing team are involved in producing the tour.) With good tax accountants, they have probably taken a loss on the initial investment - as have all the investors - and moved on. Over its lifetime, this show will clean up.
And again, the financials are so complex, what with a major studio and MTV involved - and unless you've seen the books (which you haven't) or have been given the specifics of the financial breakdown (which you haven't) then you and I are both just speculating.

Lauren is DEFINITLY going on this weekend as Margot!
As for the source for where I heard Lauren was going on as Elle in Michigan, I can't say because frankly I don't remember. I heard it a couple of months ago and had no reason to doubt her. It wasn't from her blog since I don't visit that.

Posted: 1/2/09 at 4:04pmBeing a Michigander and living in this horrible economy. I will enlighten the one who said the tour isn't doing well because there are over 1000 seats still left to be sold in Michigan. #1. we are the home of the infamous Big Three. Our state is going down the economical toilet and no one right now is in a position to spend money on theater. Michigan is NOT a large theatrical state. The only reason some of these shows do well here is due to their Broadway success, aka Wicked, Rent and Hairspray. Many Michiganders do not realize that just because Legally Blonde does not win the Tony, does not mean it sucks. Therefore, they only want to spend money on award-winning shows. Please do not base a show's financial success off of the sales from the wonderful dump of a state.

Posted: 1/2/09 at 8:59pmYou are correct. However, the show chose to play at the Wharton Center at East Lansing on the campus of Michigan State University. Which is a little under 3 hours away from where Lauren attends college. And is about an hour away from UMich and about 2 hours away from where Lauren was raised. It is not the closest destination for alot of her fans (high schoolers) and family. I will be going to see the show on 1/16 but I will be making an hour and a half drive to see it.

Posted: 1/3/09 at 8:48pmIt may not be very close, but I'm pretty sure kids will make the 2-3 hour drive to see it. I have a friend who drove 3 hours to see Spring Awakening, 10 times. including the entire last week they were here.

This thread is ridiculous because, according to Equity rules, Becky's contract would have to be terminated to bring in someone else. It's not like the producers can say, "Oh, please just stay home this week, Becky." Her contract says she will play Elle for X number of weeks (almost always a year for the First National), and they are sure as hell not gonna buy out her contract for a 5 day stint in BFE for Bailey, who would produce very very marginal sales.
If LA is a long sit down, the producers would consider doing it, I am sure.
LB has had to reduce their 'Nut', the money a show costs to run per week, to get mounted and stay alive. They have done so very successfully. They aren't going to throw money down the toilet.
Allofmylife is right.

Posted: 1/3/09 at 11:50pmWell I don't think LA is a very long sit down, it's just under 2 months..Again, as much as I would love seeing LBB go on, I'd rather see Becky go on so there's more of a chance of Lauren going on..

As of right now, there are no plans for Laura Bell Bundy to do a run in Los Angeles.

Posted: 3/23/09 at 3:50pmI REALLY hope LBB will step into the role as Elle in LA, for an extended period of time. She has a huge fanbase now, and she can sure as hell handle it. Updated On: 3/23/09 at 03:50 PM

Posted: 3/23/09 at 3:58pmfeline0favenueQ that's just completely unneccessary to say. I'm not a big fan of LBB but I've never said down with LBB. Becky has worked very hard, this is her production she earned it whether you like it or not. She's had to miss 6 weeks already because of an injury and it would be just cruel to take away another month from her.

Posted: 3/23/09 at 4:25pmBecky was in yesterday's performance here in West Palm Beach, Fl. She made an energetic Elle. I was surprised at the size (small) of the orchestra. There are a few changes in sets from the Broadway production, but nothing of huge significance. There was a wonderful understudy on for Paulette (sorry, don't have my Playbill). The ensemble really gets a workout from all the dance numbers. The guys playing female inmates are a hoot. An overall fun production.
