After seeing bandstand and noting the incredible playing of Cott & Co. - do all the understandies/covers also have the same musical chops? Anyone know/have experienced?

I am sorry to say, I saw Cott's understudy and was quite disappointed. I liked the show, and Osnes was great, but something was def missing - and since the Tonys, I believe his performance would have made Bandstand a much greater experience.

Understudies play the same instruments as the actors they cover.

Really glad I saw Corey when I went in Sunday because his performance made the whole show for me - brought me to tears more than once.

Jonathan Shew, I believe, is the first cover for Donny and has gone on while Max Clayton has yet to go on.
