Just bought tickets to see this production at the Studio Theatre ... really looking forward to it. Any other folks going?
I am also debating seeing the West Side Story revival the same weekend. Hopefully my pocketbook will allow it.
Phil, when did you get tickets for? OF COURSE I'm going! (I just haven't gotten tickets yet.)
I am going in November, but I am ushering the show.
maybe i'll try & do that as well. i've never been to DC but Grey Gardens is one of my favorite musicals
I'm embarrassed to admit that I have never been to the Studio Theatre. Are their productions usually of good quality? Good production values?
anyone know anything about the rest of the cast?
Its productions are usually of quite good quality. Sometimes one wonders why they chose a particular production (Jerry Springer: The Opera comes to my mind, despite critical and audience raves), but it is highly regarded in the DC theatre community. They tend to do more straight plays than musicals though.
A little off-topic, but I saw Barbara Walsh in About Time last night at NYMF and she was BRILLIANT!! It was a joy to see her perform in such a small venue. I can't get over how talented she is.
At times she was brassy and belting and at other moments she was singing with gorgeous and pure tones. I could totally see the contrast between Will You? and Revolutionary Costume. I have high hopes and now feel like I need to make the trip down to DC for this production.
I've seen several productions at the Studio Theatre with mixed results. Somethings were very well done, others (i.e., Take Me Out) disappointed me.
That being said, although I didn't particularly care for the Broadway production, I will give the show another try.
I am very excited to see this. I absolutely loved Barbara Walsh in Company.
The fact that I live 1/2 block away from the Studio, and could therefore possibly run into her on the street, is also just the teeniest bit exciting.
I'm jealous Liz! I'll be coming in from VA on the Metro in November (11/29) so I'll be seeing the matinee that day. I hope the weather cooperates. (Miss P - want to do lunch that day?)

Miss P, I'll be seeing it at the last matinee on Dec 20 and then seeing the revival of WEST SIDE STORY at the National that night. My Christmas present to myself, if you will.
Did you see Barbara in NIGHT MUSIC at CenterStage. Just lovely.
I'm sooooo going can't wait
Dammit, Phil! I have tickets for WSS for that afternoon! But maybe we'll finally get to meet that day, regardless. I mean, we'll be in the same place for once!
Morosco, I think The Studio does EXCELLENT work. And they take chances, which I respect greatly...even when I'm not crazy about the choice they've made. GREY GARDENS is my favorite musical, so I am somewhat anxious about any production, but I feel quite good that it's The Studio mounting this unique work.
Mamie, Is November 29 the Saturday after Thanksgiving? 'Cause I'll be in NYC then. (BOO!)
Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely have to check it out!
I wish I could see this. I think she'd do wonders with the part (not to say that Ebersole did not do so already!).
Well, if you do decide to go, please let me know because we could meet during intermission for a cup of coffee and a brownie!
I can assure you I will be very critical when this show opens because I just love it so much. Oh dear. I'm talking myself into going to the first preview, I think!
