Who was in the cast of BARE in LA? I don't feel like combing through the hundreds of pages on the Bare thread lol. Thanks!

Okay...so this raises some questions for me.
How well do you guys think it works for Nadia to be skinny? In future productions can you see her character and dynamics working if she is skinny? and do you think the actress has to learn to play cello? hah...just curious.

I think it would weaken the effect of the character -- surely there are references to Nadia's weight in the show ("Big girl, big...girl" in "A Quiet Night at Home," and a few others). Her original song was supposed to be "Plain Jane Fat Ass," so Jon Hartmere Jr. and Damon Intrabartolo did want her portrayed as a chubby girl. Otherwise, the audience would have to wonder a bit as to why a thin, smart girl would have such low esteem and social problems (of course it's possible, but her weight would be an easier explanation).
Also the line "Honey, it'll be okay. Slim down, dear -things will change/For after all, you've such a pretty face."
So, I think Nadia would have to be played by a heavier girl.
But that is a really cool fact, Blue Wizard!
Hah,
Thanks for the input, Blue Wizard...But somehow I feel like she only has to be akward, rather than fat. I feel like the character could be portrayed as a bit of a social outcast, a punk in a sea of preppies, rather than fat. The only line that I think would really be affected is "Slim down dear", because the "big girl" can easily change with interpretation.
The reason I ask is because the L.A. Nadia is gorgeous and thin, but was nominated for several awards for her portrayal. That must mean she pulled it off somewhat. Any insights from someone who saw the L.A. version?

I loves me my STEPHANIE ANDERSEN!

I think that's how she looks in her headshot, but she playeed the role as a fat teenager. In the L.A. version, she would have sung "Plane Jane Fat Ass," which has lyrics that make explicit reference to her weight.
Do you think she wore a fatsuit of some sort then?

I just googled the Variety review of the L.A. production of BARE, and found this quotation:
"Two performances that really steal the show are Keili Lefkovitz's sadly comical turn as Jason's slovenly, overweight sister, Nadia, and Stephanie Anderson's soul-singing, thoroughly hip nun, Sister Chantelle."
So Nadia was still portrayed as overweight. I don't think she would have worn a fatsuit -- the production was very low-budget, and it would have been easier to have found a larger actress. My guess is that she either gained weight for the role, or is already naturally voluptuous enough to take on the part. Nadia doesn't have to be really fat, just larger than the other castmates, and especially Ivy.
