Barrowman sneezed....

Was anyone else there the performance (Putting It Together) Barrowman sneezed?

No. But many were there the night that Chenowith farted.

re: Barrowman sneezed....

LOL!
Near the end of the show solos were being sung as each cast member faced upstage. John Barrowman sneezed while waiting.
Just before Ruthie's solo she turned to face the audience and she faked a sneeze. The cast never stopped laughing the rest of the show. Carol almost fell to her knees.
Thought it might be cool to know if anyone else on this board was there.

re: Barrowman sneezed....

For the people who constantly complain that this board is over wicked-ized, that comment only furthers it. Everything is dragged to Wicked, often in a sassy and sarcastic way. Lets keep it on topic, shall we?

I was not there the night barrowman sneezed, but would you like to share the story of what happened when he did? Was it funny?

re: Barrowman sneezed....

I'm surprised I talked about anything other than WICKED.
I am hopelessly hooked. The Tonys grabbed and now the CD and book have pulled me in so deep I can't imagine ever coming up for air.

Keep this on topic.

re: Barrowman sneezed....

Was just watching my DVD. What a ham Carol was. :)
I think I really loved this show a lot because I saw it the night after I had seen MINNELLI ON MINNELLI. Anything would have seemed brilliant after that show.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER is the only Broadway show in which I have seen Carol live. Any of you here seen her in anything? Would be real cool if any of you saw her in ONCE UPON A MATTRESS.

re: Barrowman sneezed....

I didn't see the night he sneezed but I did see it on both Opening Night and Closing Night and I thought it was such a fun show. Nothing to it other than beautiful Sondheim sung by brilliant performers, esp Barrowman and Henshall.

As for Carol, I saw her doing a Q&A/Memory Lane kind of thing here on Long Island at the Tilles Center about...5 or6 yrs ago. She showed clips from her show and talked about it and took some questions. I went because she's my friend's idol and my friend asked me to go with her, we were 3rd row. When Carol started taking questions I kept telling my friend to ask one because I knew she'd see her raise her hand. My friend chickened out so I said I was going to ask something just so she'd talk to us. I raised my hand and she called on me before I could come up with a decent question so all I could come up with was "my friend loves you, can we shake your hand?" And she not only came down to shake my hand but she brought me back up on stage with her! I didnt have a mic so she told her to speak into the mic on her shirt so it was so weird. She had me introduce myself and tell why I was there so I was honest and said bc my friend loved her and she tried to get my friend to come up on stage but my friend was just staring, totally shocked. So Carol gave me a huge hug and made me bow before letting me sit back down.
It was a lot to take in being only 13/14 at the time. I'm just glad I understood the magnitude of who she is before I went.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

re: Barrowman sneezed....

They don't make em like Carol any more.
Thanks for that wonderful story.

I enjoyed Ruthie and John a lot too. :) The whole sneeze thing really showed how well they all got along.

re: Barrowman sneezed....

I WAS THERE THE NIGHT BARROWMAN SNEEZED... he was facing the back of the stage and let out a big sneeze. And yes, they constantly mocked him throughout the show (although none of them broke character, because they are true professionals), ESPECIALLY at the curtain call. David Engel was on as The Narrator that night (who was far better than Bronson, btw). If you don't believe me, I can actually prove that I was at that performance, but I'm not allowed to say how (at least on these boards)!

I believe you but Carol did lose it a few times.
They all did but not badly.

I'd like to know how they mocked him without breaking character.

re: Barrowman sneezed....

I LOVED this show - saw it with David Engel also, actually, instead of Pinchot. Probably one of the best nights of music I've ever seen in a theater. And Ruthie is just SO hot....

re: Barrowman sneezed....

On the special features section of the DVD, have any of you watched the Matinee mistake when Carol literally stops the show and orchestra 5 minutes into the second act when her skirt falls off? Her skirt falling off is relatively entertaining, however, it is Barrowman's HYSTERICAL reaction to this that is the true comedy of the moment. He loses it. It's bizarre. Leaping around like frog on speed.

George Hearn has a small chuckle to himself...
"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending. The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."
