BeBe and Chaka

It migt be interesting to see them in the show, The Color Purple, but does anyone think I should spend my money on seeing the performance. Although I am a HUGE fan of the show, I am not familiar with thier work. What do you think?

I went to the matinee yesterday. Chaka performs 4 shows a week and not during the day.
I love the show, it was my 4th time seeing it and the new cast are excellent. I personally would love to see Mary Bond Davis as Sofia.

I think they both look too old to play the parts. Although the characters age during the show, it is easier, and more believable, to age an younger performer up, than it is to make a performer look young. Especially Harpo, his youthful naivety is part of the appeal.
I'm sure they sing great though.

Chaka was in horrible vocal shape last time I saw her perform in concert. She was also almost as heavy as Aretha Franklin. It will be interesting to see how she manages 6 shows a week.

When was the last time you saw her? I saw her in the 90's with Prince and she was in great voice. She is in great voice on her new CD also. I have heard her live since seeing her and she has sounded fine.

Saw TCP the other night again. Love it.

Chaka was really good, sassy, and in fine voice.

BeBe working in to it, and his voice sounds great.

Elizabeth as Shug still rocks my world every time!

just got back from the show. Was excited to see chaka and bebe. I gotta say, and I'm sure people will hate me for this, but I was not impressed with Chaka at all. Don't get me wrong, she wasn't bad or anything, but she's not exactly the greatest actress and her singing was more screechy than anything. I had seen video clips of the original Sofia singing HELL NO and I was really excited to hear chakas rendition. But it left me unimpressed.

I will tell you what DID blow me away... The newcomer who plays celie. Oh my goodness. She was sensational. Her expressions. Her acting. Her singing, she broke my heart. I never got to see fantasia who I heard was incredible, but I loved our celie.

Loved shug too!! What an incredible show... Really impressed us

yeah you should see her. She's not bad I just wasn't impressed or anything... I thought lakisha was good.

standouts for me were celie and shug. TCP has always been one of my favorite books and seeing it in stage was great. Loved the production.

What about BeBe? He's got a great voice; it just seems like the wrong part.

Uncageg, I also saw the show with the original cast but cannot pass up the chance to see Chaka. I have seen Chaka several times in concert. The last time was in 1999 and she looked and sounded fantastic. It was Chaka Khan and Patti LaBelle - it doesn't get much better than that!
