Beautiful and Damned

Posted: 4/19/04 at 3:16pmHas anyone heard anything about the Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald musical, Beautiful and Damned, that starts next week in London? It begins in previews my last night there and I am going to try to see it. Just wondered if there was any buzz about it. Also - -if anyone knows of a discount code for buying a ticket for it online, that would be great. Thanks.

Whatsonstage.com have a £25 offer for it, but it's had very mixed opinions - some hate it, some love it, some say it's not West End worthy. The logo puts it off for me, as does the advertising that goes with it.
What else are you seeing?

Posted: 4/20/04 at 2:45pmI'm also hoping to see Anything Goes and Bombay Dreams (which I haven't seen on Broadway yet. I think it'll be interesting to compare notes once I do).

The logo is a bit misleading I think. I'd have personally chosen to have one with the leads holding each other or maybe the pictures of the real Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald. I'd have reflected more what the show is about.
I loved the show though. I thought the sets were pretty amazing and the whole cast gave 100%.

Don't waste your time and money to see B&D!!! It's beyond dreadful and it's playing to two men and a dog at the moment. "Anything Goes" is absolutely wonderful, and yes - whatsonstage.com have the £25 offer for best seats. GO!
Bombay Dreams is off now, and another disaster. If you want to see a great play, go to "History Boys" at the National.

Posted: 7/7/04 at 7:35amoh, i'm sure they are. name me one musical in london in which the cast isn't bad. 'anything goes' and probably 'forum' at the national excluded.

Posted: 7/7/04 at 9:24amCan't exclude Anything Goes anymore. In my opinion, you never really could but you certainly can't now that they have had a partial cast change.

Posted: 7/7/04 at 12:50pmI think you need to relax and enjoy what you see because I don't get how you can think that every show in London as a bad cast. I saw B&D, Anything Goes and Jailhouse Rock during my last stay and every cast was excellent. Now if you don't like the story/music that's another thing.
