I was excited to get to see the very first performance of this brand new musical in London on Wednesday night about the passions and torments of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. A few things I'd tweak here and there, but I thought overall it was a full-bodied, well-acted show with a strong story, great music and terrific dancing. The cast got a brief standing ovation at the end, which in my limited experience with London theater, relative to Broadway, seemed to be fairly meaningful. (And I think they were quite pleased and relieved to be received so well on the first night of previews.) I thought both the leads were terrific and I especially liked the understated way of Michael Praed as F. Scott. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who's seen the show. I hope it succeeds and eventually makes its way to Broadway.
Glad you liked it - there seemed to a be a lot of negativity towards it on another board. And yes, standing ovations are very rare in London. I may think again about going.
ooooh! I hope this one does make it across the pond! I have always loved F. Scott and Zelda. maybe a limited in a small B-way house, or an off b-way run? I hope so. barbara
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
