I've been following the trail of the recently released rights for Beauty and the Beast by MTI. This should be an enormous project, with the costumes and staging alone. But I have a feeling it will be very popular and costly to mount.
One of the first professional productions will take place at the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly MA . July 6 through August 1.It stars Brad Little as the Beast.
Here is some follow-up info. that I found. http://www.talkinbroadway.com/allthatchat/display_message.php?id=16173

I still don't understand why Belle's dress can't be blue or her ball gownd gold.... stupid, stupid, stupid.

I was recently a counseler at a drama camp for young kids, and they did a production of beauty and the beast. Of course it wasn't very elaborate but it was cute, and a great show for the age group. I think these were separate rights though (maybe for children's theatre?), because the plot was slightly changed as well as some of the songs.
yeah, I saw fottage on tv a while back of some high school that won a contest and they got to do the show, but Belle's dress was still blue....
actually, the non-disney version does have some great music. I was cast in the tour but, backed out before i was supposed to leave for personal reasons. I wish I could see more people doing this version.
DISNEY aside the score by ashmen and menken is just gorgeous...
I like MichelleRuth2's post.
