As reported in La Dolce Musto:
:::Will Bebe be playing Vera in the upcoming Mame revival, as has been buzzed about? "No, I respectfully declined," she admitted. Why? Long pause. "I guess I wanted to do something else," she said, laughing.:::
Now, why don't they go with my suggestion, Sandra Bernhard as Mame and Lea DeLaria as Vera?
I'm sure Gavin could be Patrick and Sutton could be Gooch to keep the kiddies happy.

Sandy Duncan would be inspired as Mame. I'd love to see Eartha Kitt play Vera.
Sandra Bernhard is my idol. She is THE goddess!

Donna Murphy as MAME and Karen Murphy as Vera.
And it would never happen, but I would love Molly Shannon to be Gooch.
Wow...Sandra as Mame and Lea as Vera? Did I miss, maybe, seeing lesbian undercurrents in Mame and Vera's relationship?
I think Bebe would be a good Vera, but Christine Baranski would be an even better Vera. I want Michele Pawk as Mame.

Speaking of lesbian undercurrents, there's a new chapter in the Juliana journal.

I agree Bebe would be a fabulous Vera. I want to see that woman back on Broadway in SOMETHING. *sigh*
If you missed the line in BOSOM BUDDIES 'I'll always be Alice Toklas if you'll be Gertrude Stein' then YES...you missed the lesbian undercurrents.
As for Lea Delaria, she's perfectly wrong for Vera. But her Beau would be DEFINITIVE.

Then fine. Gavin as Vera.
Amazing.
Ruben from American Idol as Gooch.
Perfect.
This is kind of mean, but I feel that Sandra Bernhard is so ugly that I can't even look at her. I try very hard not to judge anyone by their looks; but she actually scares me.
Speaking of Donna Murphy, I saw her at Gypsy the other night. She came out the stage door, and without even thinking I screamed out, "Oh my God! It's Donna Murphy." LOL John Dossett was standing in front of me when I said it and he smiled because she was actually a guest of his that night. I was mad though because people around me were going, "Who?" How could they not know who she is!?

Well, you just failed pretty spectacularly. While Sandra persevered against traditional standards of beauty early in her career, many celebrities now have themeselves physically altered to achieve attributes that Sandra used to be mocked for, like her full lips.
That your range of what you find attractive seems to exclude Sandra is sad. I am one of the multitudes who find her unique characteristics very appealing, much more than the cookie cutter creatures who get mentioned in almost every single thread on this website.
This is why Broadway will become an extinct creature sooner rather than later.
Well then let me elaborate on my opinion of her. Not only is she physically unattrative, but I don't think she's funny, I don't think she has a good voice, and her acting is aweful. There are also people who are classic beauties and I think they are completely untalented, so my opinion of her is not totally based on her looks. Her scary features are only brought foward by her irritating personality.
Broadway will not become an extinct creature....it will just become a better looking one.
Wow...I always thought the Stein/Toklas line was more about the closeness of their friendship.
Now I'm not so sure....
