Bells Are Ringing Recording?
#1Bells Are Ringing Recording?
Posted: 11/17/10 at 1:14amHello! I'm ordering some more cds and am betting that after I see Bells Are Ringing on Thursday I'm going to want the cast recording for it. I already know I love "Just in Time" and "The Party's Over." I've been reading some reviews on Amazon with lots of people unimpressed with Sydney Chaplin's voice on the OBCR. I know Dean Martin's voice is great and would consider getting the movie soundtrack instead. I think some of the songs are different. Are there any can't-miss songs on the OBCR that aren't on the Soundtrack? I'd love to hear opinions on either of these recordings and any others out there. Thanks!

My favorite is the revival recording with Faith Prince and Marc Kudisch, but after seeing the Encores! rehearsal footage I sort of wish there was a recording with Will Chase.

The movie soundtrack drops several songs, but the ones I would not want to miss are "Long before I Knew You" and "Mu Cha Cha." Chaplin's voice isn't great -he's a bit of a groaner - but I find him tolerable.
If budget permits get both the OBC and OST.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
