Bernadette Looks Old

Posted: 8/25/03 at 11:39pmaccording to IMDB she was born in 1948 so she's 55, and i don't think she looks bad at all for her age. i do think she looks a bit older in her wig for gypsy though....

Posted: 8/26/03 at 1:23amYes she is 55, and while I'll admit that she looks a tad older, (and I'm a humongous fan)... You must admite that she looks pretty darn good for being 55 and not ever having plastic sugery.

Nobody looks good in a flashbulb photo. Next to bright in-your-eyes sunshine, It's the most clinical, unflattering lighting there is.
But after all that, I think Bernadette looks fine. Good Sicilian genes.
Steve, however, needs to do three things: moisturize, moisturize and moisturize! Paging Elizabeth Arden!

Posted: 8/26/03 at 11:16amFor being 55, she looks extremely good. How many 55 year old women do you know that look that youthful? Besides...atleast she's not trying to look 12...ahem, Melanie Griffith.

Yes, I would say that is just a somewhat unflattering picture probably due to lighting. Or maybe she was really tired that day and it was showing. The woman IS performing a physically killer role 8 times a week. Hey, we all don't look perfect all they time including Bernadette. In person and in many other pictures she looks much better and in no way near her 55 years.
I find it kind of amusing that her age is being questioned as it has come up before. Almost all sources list her birth year as 1948 but every once in a while heated debates erupt that she is in fact up to 5 years older. Why this debate contines, surprises me because it is fairly easy to support her age of 55. There is quite a bit of footage of Bernadette as a very young child where her age is often stated. These are broadcast tapes where the production year can be easily verified. I can't imagine her mother would have made her lie about her age as a very small child (like 3 years old) and even if she did, she couldnt' have lied by that many years. Maybe one at the most but she couldn't have passed for much older. And its not like the telelvision stations would mislable the production year of their recordings just to keep Bernadette's true age a secret.

I, personally, can't believe that there is nothing else to talk about on this board then if Bernadette looks old or not. To me, for being 55, she looks pretty damn good! I'd KILL to look anywhere near that good when I'm her age.
I agree with Mojul, she didn't look her best in that picture that we were looking at. But, there are other pictures of her, looking much better from the past month or two. All you need to do it find them, and we wouldn't even be discussing this.

Bernadette DOES look GREAT for her age. I know some adults in their 50's that look terrible, and that is STILL a young age. I have to wonder, how some people even consider being in your 30's to be old. How sad. Anyway, I am wondering what was the point of this thread. I look at that picture, and have to say that the reason she might not look as flattering as she usually does, is because maybe she's tired. That picture looks like it was taken at FYE where she was doing her CD signing, or at the promotion party for her CD. She HAS to be tired from making all these appearances, and then having to do a show 8 times a week. I saw her at FYE in person, and she looked as beautiful as ever.
Cheers,

Okay, first... MasterLcZ... LOVE your Dolly Sisters icon. ![]()
As for Bernadette...
I've heard from someone who's worked back stage with her that she *has* had a face lift or two and it was botchy. (Okay, really never wanted to say that on this message board... but I felt it was appropriate for what I'm about to say...)
I *adore* Bernadette and I don't know if that's exactly true about the face lift or if he was just messing with me, but if it is true... isn't it sad that society today encourages beautiful performers to change their appearance to avoid topics such as the thread started here? Who CARES if she DOES look her age? She still looks gorgeous (and personally, I don't think she looks old). People should be given the encouragement to age gracefully and not have to worry about what their public is saying. Everyone gets older, it's a part of life. Contrary to popular belief... people can still look beautiful or attractive with wrinkles. Look underneath the wrinkles, people! Beauty comes from within... leave the poor woman alone.
I know looking at Vanessa Redgrave she looks so washed and frail... but I still think she's beautiful, even if she hasn't "aged as gracefully" as her sister (who *is* a lot younger than her). She may look "old" but she's so regal and classy, and that's what gives her character.

Aw shucks, Daisy! *** blushing *** You're sweet to notice ( Actually it's of Nathan & Matthew, but don't tell anybody)!
I agree with you. Bernadette looks pretty damn terrific. One reason is - in addition to taking care of herself by staying out of the sun (thats how she maintains her luminous, creamy skin) she's a vegetarian and eats properly. Yet she doesn't have one of those skinny 'lollipop head' bodies that makes women look older than they really are.

Posted: 8/26/03 at 8:01pmI was at the Actor's Fund performance of "Long Day's Journey" when I saw a young woman approach. I thought to myself, "She must get told all the time that she looks like a young Bernadette Peters." Well, wouldn't you know, it was BP. And looking late 30's, tops.

Bernadette is an amazing performer, and I don't think that she deserves any criticism because of her age. She has done pretty well throughout her lifetime, and hopefully she will have many more successful shows to come!!!

Posted: 8/26/03 at 8:58pmGreat Story, QueenS! For anyone who is lucky enough to meet her up close and in person, she is beautiful (inside and out) and very young looking. It's probably not fair to judge by pictures on the internet.

Posted: 8/26/03 at 9:04pmmoljul is right! I've met Bernadette twice and she's strikingly beautiful and also just one of the sweetest people. And what would be so wrong if she did "look her age"? It says nothing about her talent and success, does it?

Posted: 8/26/03 at 9:26pmQueenS, what a wonderful story! And like StinKer Roadmann said, mojul IS right (and normally is lol). Bernadette is a beautiful lady inside and out. I challenge you to try and think of another star who would spend some of her time when she was co-hosting "Live with Regis!" to talk to a quivering 13 year old fan in the fire escape of the set...I know from experience because that was me 3 years ago, and she was the nicest person I've ever met. She didn't even want to talk about what I liked of hers, or how I got into her stuff. She wanted to talk about ME, I remember her asking me what school I went to and commenting on my Tinkerbell earrings.
