I heard this song today and it was so funny! Just the first part made me laugh (because I know nothing about Gyspy or the history of it). "Would you like to hear some more of my Tony-Losing performance? OK!"
Is that Jennifer Simard? She's dead on in her impression! She sounds EXACTLY like Bernadette. I love it when she says, "Hello everybody, I'm Bernadette PETERS!" Ah, Jennifer is so incredible!

Jennifer Simmard.
She is nice, beautiful, and talented!
I think that is one of the best impersonations.
Live, it was hysterical.

I would love to see it live.
How does FB work? Do they take certain numbers out of the show and replace them with others? I got that impression in some other posts...

They take songs from shows and re-write the lyrics for their own purposes. One of the best spoofs I've heard was about Julie Andrews. The actress was impersonating Julie and the melody was "I Could Have Danced All Night" from MY FAIR LADY but the lyrics were "I couldn't hit the note, I couldn't hit the note until they dropped the key. Now that I'm 56, my vocal cords play tricks and when I push, I pee." (Julie was 56 at the time)
Christine Pedi does hysterical Liza Minnelli impersonations!
They spoof shows and performers, directors, producers, composers... anyhting.

I have seen the show soooo many times over the years, and I am going again in a few weeks.
I saw "Forbidden Broadway SVU" back in January, and Jennifer Simard's Bernadette number was soooo realistic. You hear how good she is on the CD, but in person she actually LOOKED like Bernadette.... her facial expressions and the way she would take the deep breaths. At one point in the song, I had to remind my self that it wasnt really Berny up there! Jen Simard is AMAZING! It's a shame shes not in the show anymore...

Jennifer Simard's Bernadette was dead on. Usually each season they hire somebody who is particularly good at spoofing the "central" star of the season: Donna English did a superb Julie Andrews the year of Victor Victoria.
I adore Forbidden Broadway, but I think the over all quality of the show varies from year to year. I don't think the newest CD is as good as some of the others, but you'll always find something to giggle about.

Her Chenoweth is also dead on.
Simard is very talented. She was nominated for both a Lortel and a Drama Desk this year.
Her next project is Dr Sex.

Okay this is freaky, but I was listening to this very song barely 40 minutes ago! And yes Jennifer is dead on freaky in terms of her impersenation/mimicing.
Was she the one that does Bette Midler as well? Because that is another great dead on impersenation.

Posted: 7/12/05 at 1:38pmThere should be a Forbidden Broadway concert. They can bring back everyone who's ever been cast in the show and have them perform some of their most well-known numbers.

Posted: 7/12/05 at 11:43pmI saw FB:SVU in January and again last weekend, and tnere was a LOT of new material. It was just hilarious. But they get a strange crowd. A tour bus must have dropped off the people in the first 3 rows, I don't think they got a single jokoe.
