As a lawyer? Do they have an intern casting this show?

i know, i was a little surprised too! for someone as amazingly talented as she is, couldn't she have been given a more involved or deep or less-boring role than a lawyer?
hopefully they'll throw some sort of twist into the episode and her character will become more central to the plot. at least let's hope so!

I don't care what she plays, as long as the suit is low-cut.

Thrilled for this one! Love me my Bernnie!
Her concert at Lincoln center was one of the best concerts I believe I have ever attended. I'd love for the Grande Dame to come back to Broadway in a good, great big splashy role. Be it new or revived, Broadway audiences want to applaud Ms Peters triumphant fortitude, mindblowing talent, and amazing grace!

Not sure why this just popped into my head but...
Could you imagine Bernadette playing Madame Morrible in Wicked??

Bernadette is way above any part in Wicked. Just mentioning that is just wrong.

First of all, the part is too "featured" for her.
Secondly, she's not going to be anyone's replacement, never mind replacement #14.

I was just asking people if they could imagine it, that's all. Didn't necessarily say I thought it was a smart move...
I have a still from Wicked on an online photoalbum I was looking through and saw a quick shot of MM as I was reading these boards...popped into my head...

OK, how did the word Wicked pop up on a thread about the legendary Bernadette Peters?
I am excited about her guest appearance, but I can't wait for her to return to Broadway.

I'm still holding out hope that she'll be in the forthcoming The First Wives Club. Of course only if the show turns out to be good.

Hopefully the rumors she is interested in starring in the proposed Hello, Dolly! revival are true.

!!!!
I just got very excited thinking about what Bernadette and her fine self are going to look like on my new TV. Secretly this must have been the whole reason I even bought a new TV, it's like fate, it's Bernadette-shaped fate. Highlight of my month. And I don't even like Law & Order.
Joining the chorus of voices wishing for Bernadette's return to Broadway, too.

"Bernadette-shaped fate"
I was thinking that a Bernadette-shaped cake would be good too.

Rath: I'm sure any of the amazing cake people on Food Network Challenge could make your dream a reality.
Bernadette won't be the first Broadway actor to be a lawyer. I've seen Betty Buckley, Chip Zein and Elaine Stritch all take on the lawyer role. (Elaine Stritch was fabulous, btw. If memory serves correct, the episode was filmed in '92.)
But I did see Jack Noseworthy play a crazy child molester once.

Fiction, you missed Tovah Feldshuh, who's played defense attorney Danielle Melnick recurringly since season 1 of the original Law & Order.

A Bernadette-shaped cake would be grand, but possibly too pretty to eat.

Maybe she'll play a lawyer that can't stop singing show tunes.

She's brilliant, just pure pure brilliance. It doesn't get any truer or better than Bernadette Peters in my eyes. They don't make talent like this anymore and I hope she continues to use her amazing skill on a Broadway stage very soon. I may be sounding like a crazy here, but I just wanted to hug her after her husband passed, and wish her well. For all the joy she's brought into peoples lives, she deserves our thanks and praise.
