Posted: 12/16/10 at 11:32pmThis is my first post! I recently saw ALNM with Bernadette Peters and I LOVED it. I would recommend it to anyone. I was wondering though, did Sondheim originally ask her to do the role over Catherine Zeta Jones? Bernadette seems like a better choose and not someone to replace. Thanks for the feedback!

Bernadette's name was allegedly thrown around by producers the first time around, but Trevor Nunn wanted to open the production with a younger Desiree.
Zeta-Jones was asked to play the role by both Trevor Nunn AND Stephen Sondheim.
