I don't know what songs youa re used to her singing but pretty much the only thing she changed was that she didn't sing "Being Alive". She did say a little something about her husband and shed some tears but after that she seemed to really hold back some emotion. Total props to her for going on with this concert, she is a strong woman.

I think she'd have fallen apart if she had performed "Being Alive" she shows so much passion when she performs that song, and being about having someone else, someone to love, it'd have destroyed her I believe. I can't believe she is doing concerts and back to work, before I loved her, now I can't even describe my admiration at the greatness of this woman. Did she do "Not A Day Goes By"? That's one of those other songs you can tell she feels very close to when she sings it, best version I've heard of that song yet.

re: Bernie's Concert Question

I was there. She was fabulous. It was almost heartbreaking to listen to her though. She had more energy than I have ever seen in her. She also had so much emotion in every song. It is as if all the songs she's sang so many times have new meaning....

I'll try and get the set list as best as possible, but I didn't write it down:
She opened with Let me Entertain You.
Unexpected Song
Mr. Snow
Not a Day goes by
Children will listen
Fever - She said it was the firs time she ever sang it. It was HOT. She was so sexy during it. (one breast almost fell out of her dress...hahaha)
The Gentelman is a Dope
There's Nothing Like a Dame
Rose's Turn
You Could Drive a person crazy
She closed with an Irving berlin song, but I forgot the name of it. I might have missed a song or two.

She did not do Being Alive. However, the Long Island Phil played it at the end of the show. I thought that was interesting.

She was fabulous. I was so happy for her at the end. She got a standing ovation when she came out. There was LOTS of applause during it, and obviously a standing ovation at the end. She was very professional.

"(one breast almost fell out of her dress...hahaha)" Gotta love Bernie's bingo-bongos.

I'll admit, I've never been a huge Bernie fan. But this has made me really consider her dedication to the theater world and her strength as a human being.

re: Bernie's Concert Question

So it took her husband dying for you to realize that she is talented?

Wow, I don't even know where to start with that.

re: Bernie's Concert Question

Bobby, that's not what I'm saying.

If you look at what I said - I said her dedication and strength. Nowhere did I say ANYTHING about her talent.

I've never been a Bernie fan for just a personal reason. While I think she's a talented actress, her voice just never really appealed to me and was never one I wanted to hear on a repeated listen.

re: Bernie's Concert Question

I have always been a huge fan of Bernadette's. This concert has re-affirmed my love of her. I agree with iluvtheatertrash's comment. Bernie is extremely committed to the theater community and her chosen profession. She did dedicate the performance to her husband and said "She has a commitment to the over 3000 ticket holders, and the performing." she also thanked the audience for helping her with "the first steps". She is a true shining star.

She made a statement somewhere that even though her husband died, She will continue to perform and is still going to the Tiles Center.

re: Bernie's Concert Question

Was she making her usual funny remarks? Did he talk about marriage before singing You Could Drive A Person Crazy? I can imagine her shows now take a whole new emotional level so different from her previous concerts. I truly admire her and adore her.

re: Bernie's Concert Question

Bernie will go on and handle anything that ever happens with a professional style & grace as always, She is simply incredible. I don't remember who the actress was - but it was Broadway and during her run her husband passed away and they were told she would not be taking time off, Indeed, she came in and posted a note on her dressing room door saying something like Yes, It happened and thank you all for everything but right now we have a show to do. That is not only a real pro, but a great wise person who see's their craft as a good therapy that will lead them from grief to coping again.
Bernie is a Pro, She knows how we who wrote feel for her, and now she is in her own steps toward "Moving On".
It is sad, but the only way to truly honour those who have gone before us is to go on living, She seems to know that.

jimmirae, I remember that story. I'm fairly sure that was Beatrice Lillie, and the person who died was her son who was killed in the second world war.

re: Bernie's Concert Question

Thanks Kjklo for the info there, I knew it was a true story and a long time ago but it was a tad hazy, Great story to tell though and I thank you most kindly for filling me in, Now I can retell it when needed with facts in tow. That is why I love this board, I knew someone would know that story and fill in any blanks. Thanks so much again!
